Review: I am IN LOVE - If I could give this 6 out of 5 stars, I would. 11/10. 100% satisfied. I live in a small apartment and my job has me working long hours. When I get home from work or on my rare day off I have a really hard time bringing myself to go do laundry at a laundromat. Not that I mind doing laundry, but the sorting it, packing it up, hauling it all to a laundromat along with laundry detergent, paying $5+ every time just to spend about 1.5 to 2 hours sitting and waiting for the laundry to finish all while it being around 10 or 11 at night? Yeah, I put it off as long as I can every single time. Like, until the only thing left to wear are the ugly Christmas sweater and the shorts I've had since middle school level of put it off. After a while I started washing things by hand in the bathtub because I hated the laundromat process so much, but that was such a tedious process involving a plastic magazine file bin, kitchen tongs, and scalded hands... needless to say, it was a dark time where laundry was concerned. I was hesitant to purchase this at first due to price, but y'all, I WISH I HAD PURCHASED THIS SOONER. It's SO easy. It takes two minutes to wash things (but I double that because two minutes of washing feels weird), so I pop on a good song and spin it until it's done. The entire process can be done in the bathtub: the spinning, the draining, the rinsing, and then scoot it over and your drying rack can fit in there too. It takes a while to drain if the lid stays on (the instructions recommend keeping it on for hot water until it cools), but since I'm at home, I can just go do other things. If the water is tepid just pop that lid off and it drains quick. I'm not stuck staring at a spinning washer hoping someone doesn't steal my clothes. Then a quick rinse, let it drain, dry your clothes, and go back to your day. It's hands-on work for only roughly 10 minutes. It's awesome. It fits a lot more clothes than I anticipated, too. I use those 13" x 13" cube bins as a laundry hampers for each type of clothes so they're already sorted, and the washer can fit pretty much an entire bin's worth of clothes. I was shocked at how much I could wash at once. Even though it's expensive, a quick calculation showed it would pay for itself in 16 trips to the laundromat (and a trip to the laundromat runs roughly 2 loads of what this can handle), so that's basically 32 washes. But forget the money part. Not having to deal with the entire process of going out to do laundry, and not having that chore hanging over my head basically at all times... that alone is worth it. I already have to spend all day every day outside of my apartment and I just don't want to leave my place on my days off. And with winter coming, laundry days lugging dirty clothes through nasty NYC street slush is *miserable*, but now I don't have to! Plus, it's kind of fun! I'm actually looking forward to doing my laundry now. It's worth it to me to FINALLY have a full closet of clean clothes and not losing things to endless pit of the "dirty" hamper! I am 100% a fan of this. If you have ever found yourself washing clothes by hand at any point, just do yourself a favor: buy this washer and thank me later.
Review: Impressive across the board - Four years later update! - Four years later and I've bought two more of these to give to travel nurse friends as gifts! It's small, lightweight, an the drum holds detergent, softener, and Lysol laundry sanitizer when I transport it. I'm still cranking my washing when I rent a place with no washer and dryer, and still delighted. I hand wring everything still, and have upgraded from rope in a closet to a collapsible clothes tree I spotted at a big box store. See the latest picture. That way, I can dry outside if the weather is compatible, but easy enough o do inside as well. I figure the Wonder Wash has saved me about 80 trips to a laundromat. Fantastic! ------------------------------------- Holy wonderful washing unit! I really cannot tell you how impressed I am, but I am sure going to try. I've had the Wonderwash for about a week now and I've done laundry every other day. It's so quick and easy that I start it while waiting for my coffee to brew, let it drain while I make breakfast, do a rinse run while my eggs finish cooking, plate up my food while it drains, rinse one more time, and eat my meal while it drains the final time. It doesn't even need that final rinse, I'm just picky. It is absolutely perfect for my scrubs. I can wash and hang a couple of uniforms every couple of days and never run out again. No more waiting for the laundry room in my apartment to have a free machine. I've converted a closet into a make shift drying area with dollarstore plastic drop cloth, clothesline, and clothespins. It uses very little water and detergent. Best of all, it really cleans. When not in use, I wipe the drum dry and stash it in the same closet I use to hang clothes. This is a must have for travel nurses. No more hunting for open laundromats at 2am, or checking the facilities machines every hour hoping to get some laundry done. I see this being great for camping too. I can't wait to take it on a trip. For now, it certainly sees enough use. Love love love this. TIPS AND TRICKS (Because I can find a dozen reviews and very little advice) °Add water and soap before clothes. Keep a hand towel nearby for inevitable dribbles. °If using hot water, pressure builds up (that's a feature, not a bug!) and sometimes the lid will start to leak. After a few turns, release the lid, lock it back down, and keep going. You may have to do this a couple times based upon how hot the water is. °This is where that hand towel comes in. Give the drum a quick wipe to reduce splatter. °Use a permanent marker to indicate the grooves on the drainage tube (see picture). This saves you the messy fumble of trying to line it up while water leaks everywhere. °Use less water to rinse than you did to wash. The clothes are already wet, and too much water causes the unit to wobble and thud loudly when it is turned. I have found that my rinse cycles take about half the water of my wash cycle. °Wash with hot and rinse with cold to save the "lid dribbles" when you don't need them! I rinse twice. After my wash, I add a spoonful of fabric softener to the first rinse, and plain water to my second. My clothes smell fantastic. °If you are line or coat-hanger-drying indoors, set up a fan to decrease your drying time exponentially. Also, it makes the whole room smell like clean laundry which is awesome! °Worried you're not rinsing out all the soap? With dry hands, rub your washed clothes between your fingers and then rub your fingers together. If they feel slippery rather than just wet, rinse again. And stop using so much soap, jeez. **Q: You actually crank this.  Does it crank easily or is your arm sore afterwards?**
A: Sandra, the short answer is "a full load is a rather heavy crank BUT you can take all the time you want AND you can do smaller loads."  It really helps to put it on a low table or computer desk (27" to 30") so your arm cranks it in a natural position.A long answer begins by adding weights.  A heavy load is the worst case scenario so let's use that.  1.5gal water weighs 12 lbs and your clothes might weigh, oh, let's say 3 lbs.  That's 15 lbs you need to crank for a 2 minute wash plus a 2 minute rinse.  Again, you can take breaks if your arm gets tired.  And you can use your other arm to help the tub do its revolutions.Hope this helps!  Bonus tip: always add the water first, clothes last.

**Q: Does it get all of the detergent and softner out when rinsing the clothes?**
A: It does a pretty good job. As with conventional washing machines, if you use too much detergent it won't rinse as well. You can also use a spin dryer and skip rinsing in the Wonderwash altogether. Just dunk the clothes quickly in cold water, then drop in a spin dryer sopping wet. The high RPMs remove a great deal of detergent. People normally think of rinsing as the only way to remove detergent from the clothes, but higher RPM spin cycles also do a great job removing detergent.

**Q: how many items fit in this product?**
A: We usually don't pack more than 6 large mens t-shirts. The clothes need space to move around in order to get clean. Usually one pair of jeans will fit. Sometimes you can put two pairs of women's jeans if they are a thinner material. I've done some larger loads of light clothes like underwear, undershirts, and tanks. I wash many pairs of socks by themselves (up to 15 pairs at a time).

**Q: How dry are the clothes after washing?  One of the challenges I have with sink washing is it takes forever to air dry.**
A: Very wet and it is amazing how long it takes clothes to dry that way.  That is why I bought a mini-dryer as well so for about $100 total for the washer and dryer, our family cleans delicates and daily wash when we don't have a full load in these units. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great for simple living. Could be more durable.

I love my Wonderwasher and Nina spin dryer! I’ve used them for all my washing for 9 months now. I work in landscape construction and even my dirty clothes get nearly as clean as when I washed with a conventional large, auto washer. I do give my work clothes 150 turns and two rinses. Regular clothing gets 120 turns and one rinse. It takes me about 20 minutes per load, washed, spun, and hung on the line to dry. I do this all four seasons here in southern Oregon. Pros: Simple, low cost, low maintenance units Non electric washer and very little electricity use when paired with the must-have portable spin dryer Less water use Low “cradle to grave” resource impact Gentle on clothing Cons: A bit of physical effort involved (but not so much) Takes a bit more time than using a conventional washing machine Durability of both the Wonderwasher and Nina spin dryer remains to be seen. The Wonderwasher is made of a thin. hard plastic and in use it sometimes creaks and pops from the many connection points of the frame and barrel parts. So far, no problems. The washer leaks some water with hot water that pressurizes the unit beyond the sealing ability of the lid. Releasing pressure after the first few turns reduces pressure and stops further leakage. I use mine in the tub so leaking doesn’t really matter to me. You must line dry or use a heated dryer to fully dry clothing after spinning in a spin dryer. Of course line-drying can be impossible in cold, humid weather but I have found I can make it through winter if I wait for the sunny and/or breezy days that do come even through winter. If you’re willing and able to put a little extra effort and time into laundry, as I am, the Wonderwasher and spin dryer offer many benefits. Laundry with these is MUCH more environmentally sustainable than using conventional alternatives. I feel great about this! I do wish that someone would make a more sturdy, durable, and no doubt more expensive alternative for those of us who don’t like plastic stuff with a too limited lifespan. I saw a used aluminum, Fench made model for sale recently on Pinterest. It was many decades old, beautifully made (so it appeared anyway) and was selling for two or three hundred bucks. It’s frame was too big to fit my needs. I would pay up to 200, maybe a bit more for a metal washer or a bit less for a better quality plastic model. For around $50 the plastic Wonderwasher is ok and works very well. 3-13-20 My Wonderwasher and Nina spin dryer are both still working well and I don’t intend to replace them with an auto washing machine :). 11-2020: Over 2 years regular use and no problems with my Wonderwasher or Nina Spin Dryer! I recommend! 11-2021 Now over 3 years of use 2x per week 6-7 loads. Still very satisfied with the Wonderwasher (and my spin dryer). I had hoped to get at least 3 years out of these and now I have and both are still serving well. I wrote of my wish for a sturdier product, and I still feel that, but I am impressed with the durability/longevity of the washer. I’ve now moved my rating from 4 stars to 5. 1-2022 My Wonderwasher broke today :(. A piece broke off the frame where one of the suction cups fits so the cup no longer stays in place. So.I got 3 1/4 years out of my unit. This was just past my minimum acceptable use of 3 years and I guess about half what a conventional washer would last. If I could rate at 3 1/2 stars that’s what I’d give instead I dropped my rating from 5 to 4. You can get a replacement frame kit from Laundry Alternative for about 1/4 of the price of a new unit to repair. Good! Other parts are also available. 1-22 I wrote to Laundry Alternative about my findings. They responded immediately and are shipping a replacement frame at no charge though I didn’t ask or expect them to do this. I was told that Wonderwasher typically last MUCH longer than my three years. Encouraging! Customer service has always been excellent with them. I really believe in this kind of simple, effective, very environmentally friendly product so I want to do my bit to support them. I’ll try to let you know how my unit does in the future. 8-2024 My Wonderwasher is now 6 years old and it broke again where one of the suction cups attaches to the frame. The first time it broke this way at the 3 1/4 yr mark I was able to wire the suction cup back in place and use the washer til now, This time the break is more substantial and I won’t be able to repair it. The handle also broke a year or so ago. The Laundry Alternative had sent me a whole new unit when I reported the first break of the frame so I’ve been using the new handle on my original unit. So…first repairable break at 3 1/4 years of use, handle break at about 4 1/2 or 5 years of use and now another break at base of frame. Because LA was good to send me a new unit with my first break, I have used my original Wonderwasher for 6 years and still have a new unit to continue washing with, all at the original price of $50. I am very happy with this service, of course. So, in my experience, a Wonderwasher can be expected to last at least 3 years of regular use (probably more if you’re careful to not overload it) and The Laundry Alternative will help you keep washing much longer than that with generous service. I hope the maker will consider “deluxe”/ heavy duty model for those of us who use ours often and are willing to pay more to maximize longevity and minimize plastic waste. Thanks much though for the Wonderwasher! I think it’s the best there is for what it does.
