I was wrong to think that. There's some impressive details given about key battles (some of them unmentioned before) and the people involved in them. In many cases the author avoids assuming the reader knows too much about a certain well established Star Wars event and carefully builds it up (although there are exceptions). The new details about the Grand Admirals was welcome. The writer also avoids covering certain events in such detail that it spoils the original work they came form, which I appreciated. My only serious complaint is that there are certain events receive too little attention. I can't even remember if the Black Fleet Crisis was mentioned at all half a week after reading this. The Battle of Endor was a little sparser on detail than I'd have liked. And most importantly, the Sith Wars are grossly downplayed, with hardly anything between Naga Sadow and the Batle of Ruusan receiving more than a sentence or two despite thousands of years of conflicts between them I was hopeful for more insight about.
