When my first one finally broke after an encounter with some overly determined dry clay, I immediately bought another. That is about the highest compliment I can give a tool. What sets this one apart is the finer needle. Because it is thinner than most, it displaces less clay when cutting around templates, which means cleaner edges and more accurate cuts. In the pottery world, that tiny difference adds up quickly. The wooden handle is also slimmer and lighter than many other needle tools. As someone with smaller hands, I appreciate tools that feel nimble rather than club-like. This one feels more like a precise drawing instrument and less like a tiny medieval weapon. The needle can bend if you use it aggressively, and mine eventually broke while working with drier clay. That is the only real downside, but for me the precision and comfort more than make up for it.
