Review: Nice setup that's at a nice price. - Easy to setup, wire-up, and get into place. Was a little-bit of a tight fit with both pumps in my pit, but they fit together facing opposite directions. These pumps are quiet, fast, and after 3 months, reliable. Battery backup has been tested a few times manually, and still seems to work well. I'm very comfortable with the setup. It took about 20-30 minutes total to setup with a Y-joint pipe and check valve cutting a new pipe to join the two, and I zip-tied the float to the pipe and tested with a water pour to be sure it wouldn't snag or hesitate. The battery I used was Casil 100 AH Deep Cycle AGM CA121000 SLA Solar/RV battery for $185, which got top ratings and matched the terminal requirements. I Mated this kit to a Wayne CDU980E 3/4 HP pump using the PumpSpy Dual Pump Install Kit and a Raybend,"Silent" Sump Pump Check Valve, 1-1/2" that I had installed prior to hooking up the backup pump kit. Altogether, I spent about $820-$850, which is much less than the $1800 I was priced for a 1/2, 1/3 HP kit by a local plumber. Between the two pump installs, drilling and mods, and running 3 more drain lines that were never installed originally (Heater, tank, A/C condensation, and Humidifier) it took me about 60-70 minutes for all of the work, testing, and cable dressing. At $860 - $1000/hr for after-tax labor, it was well-worth my time, and surprisingly very easy to do. I may add pics later, if I have the time. Don't bother with the unsealed batteries, and the Li-ion's aren't worth the price, especially, as they cold pose a fire hazard in the humid environment you'll be using them in - unless you know the maker well and can trust the quality of the sealed system - especially since this charging system doesn't have the electronics to protect against surges or overcharging of Li-ion batteries. This system shouldn't go through enough cycles to make it worthwhile anyway. In fact, with the reliable power I have at my house, I really only need a standard 12V car or lawn-tractor battery, but it's worth the comfort of knowing this will last and have the capacity if the power goes out for awhile.
Review: Worth the money and effort for peace of mind - Easy to install and works as expected. I left my primary pump unplugged and only used the back up pump, and it had no problems keeping up with the incoming water. Much improved, redesigned pump, as compared with the previous Wayne ESP25 pump this replced. The old back up pump was replaced after 9 years just as maintenance, but it was still operational.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Is it ok to connect to the primary pumps PVC before the check valve, eliminating the need for 2 check valves?**
A: No, you need a check valve for each pump. This happened to my sump pump installation: Over time, the flapper (acts like the valve) in the check valve deformed a little, detached from its hinge point(s), and ended up in the FRONT part of the body. This meant that when water was being pumped out of the sump, the water forced the flapper into the check valve opening... BLOCKING the flow! The check valve ended up working backwards, basically. With the water unable to flow, after enough time, the sump pump burned itself out. If two pumps are feeding through just one check valve, the same thing could happen to both pumps. Each pump needs its own check valve. It's OK for the discharge lines to merge afterwards. BTW: If you really depend of a reliable sump pump installation, spend the extra $30-$50 bucks and get a couple of industrial-strength check valves (regardless if you have a single or double-pump system). They will be "out of sight and out of mind" parts of your installation; you need to KNOW that they'll last!

**Q: What size pvc pipe goes into the single fitting at the top of the unit, and what method are you using to attach it? Thanks**
A: I glued a three-foot section of 1-1/2" PVD pipe to the wye-fitting at the top of the pump assemble. At the top of the three-foot section I used an 1-1/2" Fernco rubber coupler with stainless steel clamps to connect it to the drain line. You're going to love this pump. It's the quietest pump I've ever heard.

**Q: Can anyone please recommend a battery to purchase for this unit?**
A: I installed a VMAX 127 deep cell battery. It provides between 36-48 hours of pumping capacity. Cost ~$300. I recommend you don't go cheap on the battery.

**Q: does this pump come with a battery**
A: The pump does not come with a battery.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Superior backup system design and pump.
*by D***S on February 8, 2024*

This is the pump backup system to have if you want peace of mind with your sump pump. I've had 4 flooded basements from failed sump pumps over the last 25 years. Other than the age of the original pump and a failed float switch, the other floods were all partly caused by human error - sometimes my own. First I tried water sensor alarms, but that's too late (the water is already on the floor) but the batteries died before the flood happened. Then I tried a solar battery backup so my pump would always be working even if there was no power. That failed when the solar battery decided to recharge itself from the A/C power while the pump needed to be running - and it shut off the A/C output because it didn't support simultaneous discharge and recharge. This 12V battery backup system is the right answer. The kit includes a trickle charger maintains the battery when it's not needed, the battery is capable of running the pump for days in the event of a power outage, and the case cover has battery strength monitoring LEDs so you know when to replace the battery - about 5 years of life just like your car battery. There's also a test switch on the cover so you can routinely check to make sure your backup pump is working. You must order the battery separately from this kit - it does not include a battery. The Weize battery (ESP-25) works great and costs less than the wayne branded battery. It's also smaller, so it fits inside the case quite easily.
