could i use this to deodorize my house, like under a sink?

It's for aquariums, I don't think it work would under the sink

Can this be used without a filter. like float it? i have a sponge filter. but i wanna lighten my tanins in my water a little. thanks

Never tried that. I use it in my Lees internal filter as part of a triple filtration system with floss and white stones which escapes me. Each component is needed to keep the water clean. anpes
