## Description

A large fruit with a waxy yellow outside and a white fleshed inside, spotted with small soft edible seeds. Dragon fruits are also known as pitaya and orchid cactus. Dragon fruit is a vining succulent with gorgeous, large, night blooming yellow flowers followed by vivid exotic fruit. Plant does extremely well in pots and is usually trellised. For those who can grow them outside, they are a useful addition ornamental flower as well as nutritionally fruit. Space 8-10' apart on trellis, fence, or wall. Or grow in a pot in the greenhouse or indoors, moving the plant to larger containers as the plant grows. Outside zones are 9-11. How to Grow: Most all edible plants grow well in Full Sun, a little shade won’t hurt. Dragon Fruit can be planted in most healthy soils with normal pH range 6.5-8. I recommend growing in a good potting soil for your starter plant and then mix up your favorite type of medium when ready to be fully planted. Let your soil completely dry out then water 1-2 times a week. Make sure you find a fertilizer and follow guidelines. I recommend using an organic potting mix with your fertilizer and soil additives all ready mix in.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: How long until they get fruit?**
A: The correct answer to that question will be dependent on how old the cutting was that the new plant is started from. If it's from an established plant that is already fruiting, then you could potentially expect to see the new growth flower in as little as a year. If it's newer growth, then it could take as long as 3 years. But it does also depend on soil conditions, sunlight, temperature, moisture, etc. Follow some of the great YouTube tutorials. But it would be nice if the seller would indicate how old the original plant is that the cuttings are taken from.

**Q: Have any of you guys gotten any fruit from these plants?**
A: Mine yielded three fruits last year. It bore 5 flowers 3 years after planting. This variety is late bloomer unlike the others. Flowering started about December and the fruit harvested January.

**Q: How to care for them when the plants are so small?**
A: As small plants they can be slow growers. Keep them in well-drained soil not to wet. If the plants are in pots, once they reach 12 to 15 inches you can put them in the ground and stake. Compost, 
FPJ, or fish emulsion fertilizer is great for this plant. But not during fruiting  season.

**Q: Is this yellow dragon fruit plant a self-pollinator?**
A: Yes theybare self polinating but its best to hand pollinate each flower to ensure a fruit. They bloom at night.
