The good news: getting twice the amount I need from a can (when mixed 1/1 with water). Putting a coat of urethane on top (after dried) darkens it - no need for a second coat (and potentially making it bluish-purple). **Q: Can you use it on pressed wood?** A: Yes but not sure the look would be what you want. It ages the wood bringing out the grain on pressed wood it would exaggerate the pieces of pressed wood a gel stain Might be a better product. You can make faux grain. **Q: can the stain be lightened after it's applied? I have darker areas where it overlapped.** A: Try leaving the treated wood out in the sun. The UV rays start to fade/lighten the effect on wood. You may need to leave in the sun for several days. Just experiment with it. **Q: what is the best topcoat for this product to retain the colour?** A: laquer then followed by poly. just poly will lighten your satisfied color. ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐ Complete mess as far as Coverage,Product is good tho' *by on Reviewed in India 8 July 2020* Product says Coverage per quart is 275 sq ft bu I got s cover area of just 50 sq ft ! Ok I did apply two coats but still 100 is no way near 275:(:(:(I am now short and due to this lockdown cannot even source more qty! ### ⭐ Not original ..cheated by seller *by on Reviewed in India 31 August 2020* Updating my review after i opened it few days later on purchase for actual use on my furniture it has all fungus over it and when I brushed it off on teak wood no grey stain ...simply as if brushed water. NOW THE RETURN time has expired I regret spending my money ..highly disappointed...Initial reviewExpected this stain to be a little deep in shade as I saw on YouTube the stain was more dark grey. ALSO RECEIVED A leaking bottle and seems like not original packing .But have kept it as I was not getting this stain anywhere in India. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great! *by on Reviewed in the United States 27 August 2026* Husband build a beautiful earring holder out of redwood. I wanted it to look rustic and this did just that! ## Frequently Bought Together - Varathane 313835 Weathered Wood Accelerator, Quart, Gray - Pro Grade, Paint Brushes, 5-Piece, Paint Brush Set: Flat & Angle Brushes for Latex and Oil Paints, Stains, Interior & Exterior Home Improvement - Varathane Premium Fast Dry Wood Stain, Quart, Weathered Gray --- ## Why Shop on Desertcart? - 🛒 **Trusted by 1.3+ Million Shoppers** — Serving international shoppers since 2016 - 🌍 **Shop Globally** — Access 737+ million products across 21 categories - 💰 **No Hidden Fees** — All customs, duties, and taxes included in the price - 🔄 **15-Day Free Returns** — Hassle-free returns (30 days for PRO members) - 🔒 **Secure Payments** — Trusted payment options with buyer protection - ⭐ **TrustPilot Rated 4.5/5** — Based on 8,000+ happy customer reviews **Shop now:** [https://www.desertcart.no/products/76940650-varathane-313835-weathered-wood-accelerator-quart-gray](https://www.desertcart.no/products/76940650-varathane-313835-weathered-wood-accelerator-quart-gray) --- *Product available on Desertcart Norway* *Store origin: NO* *Last updated: 2026-10-28*
