Builds on prior knowledge and introduces new words with similar sounds, blends etc. My daughter loves these stories and they are the perfect balance between guided and independent reading for her. Not too challenging but alway new words to discover. Review: Actually kind of clever... - Bought these books to supplement (and hopefully improve on) the bring-home readers my son was using in class. His reading progress was slow and he wasn't engaging with the school readers. Enter these Usborne readers. What an instant improvement! The stories are pretty classic and nothing particularly epic, but there are some 'smarts' behind this collection. Firstly, all the books are roughly the same length - 46-48 pages in total. Next, each page is a full picture with two to three lines of text on each. Thirdly, it repeats some of the key words over again by reconstructing sentences in different ways to not make it obvious that it is reinforcing new words. And finally, it only uses a few of the more difficult-to-sound-out words per book so as to not overload or overwhelm. We are only now approaching the end of the first of the three sets, but reading these daily has already shown huge improvements in my son's ability and willingness (see confidence) to engage. Once we finish this set, we will look to move on to the next! ## Technical Specifications | Specification | Value | |---------------|-------| | Customer Reviews | 4.7 out of 5 stars 568 Reviews | ## Images ![Usborne My Second Reading Library 50 Books Set Collection Pack Early Level 3 and 4 and Young Reading series One - Image 1](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/51bK1MJToPL.jpg) ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great reading program *by S***H on 15 September 2019* Excellent reading program for kids. As a parent and former teacher, I purchased this set for my 6-year-old, who’s transitioning from picture books to chapter books. Here’s our experience after two months of use: **PROS:** ✅ **Structured Learning:** The set’s division into Levels 3, 4, and Young Reading Series One ensures gradual progression. The first 14 Level 3 books (e.g., classic tales like *The Goose That Laid the Golden Eggs*) are perfect for building fluency, while Levels 4 and Series One introduce longer stories and chapters. ✅ **Engaging Variety:** The mix of folktales, myths, and original stories keeps kids interested. My child loved the humor in *The Dinosaur Who Lost His Roar* and the adventure in *The Minotaur*. ✅ **Boosts Independence:** The clear text, short paragraphs, and occasional illustrations empower early readers to tackle books solo. My child’s confidence skyrocketed! ✅ **Great Value:** 50 books for this price is a steal compared to buying individually. Perfect for home libraries or classroom use. ✅ **Quality Publishing:** Usborne’s reputation for educational content shines—durable covers, age-appropriate vocabulary, and thoughtful storytelling. **CONS:** ❌ **Inconsistent Illustrations:** While Level 3 books have vibrant pictures, Level 4 and Series One rely more on text. Younger kids might miss the visual engagement. ❌ **Repetitive Themes:** A few stories feel formulaic (e.g., animal-focused tales), which bored my child after a while. ❌ **Delivery Limitations:** The free UK delivery is a perk, but international buyers face high shipping costs (not clearly stated upfront). ❌ **Font Size Variability:** Some books in Series One use smaller text, which can intimidate new readers. ❌ **No Parent/Teacher Guide:** A supplementary tips sheet for guiding reading sessions would have been helpful. **Final Thoughts:** This set is a fantastic investment for parents or educators aiming to foster a love of reading. The structured levels, diverse stories, and Usborne’s trusted quality make it a standout. While the lack of visuals in advanced books and occasional repetitiveness are minor letdowns, the pros far outweigh the cons. My child now proudly declares, “I read a *chapter* book today!” **Recommend For:** Kids aged 5–8 progressing from beginner readers to independent chapter books. Ideal for home use, gifts, or classrooms. Not suited for toddlers or reluctant readers needing heavy illustration support. A 4-star literacy booster! ## Frequently Bought Together - Usborne My Second Reading Library 50 Books Set Collection Pack Early Level 3 and 4 and Young Reading series One - Usborne Beginners Series Science Collection 10 Books Box Set (Earthquakes & Tsunamis, Sun Moon and Stars, Living in Space, Storms and Hurricanes, Volcanoes, Astronomy, The Solar System, Your Body, Pla - Usborne My First Reading Library 50 Books Set Collection - Read At Home --- ## Why Shop on Desertcart? - 🛒 **Trusted by 1.3+ Million Shoppers** — Serving international shoppers since 2016 - 🌍 **Shop Globally** — Access 737+ million products across 21 categories - 💰 **No Hidden Fees** — All customs, duties, and taxes included in the price - 🔄 **15-Day Free Returns** — Hassle-free returns (30 days for PRO members) - 🔒 **Secure Payments** — Trusted payment options with buyer protection - ⭐ **TrustPilot Rated 4.5/5** — Based on 8,000+ happy customer reviews **Shop now:** [https://www.desertcart.no/products/761241149-usborne-my-second-reading-library-50-books-set-collection-pack](https://www.desertcart.no/products/761241149-usborne-my-second-reading-library-50-books-set-collection-pack) --- *Product available on Desertcart Norway* *Store origin: NO* *Last updated: 2026-10-26*
