Are the controller's supposed to stay lit up to signify player one and player two during two-player games? Mine dont?

no it stays lit just to connect then it is out

What size batteries are needed for controller and main system?

Hi, thank you for your inquiry. The controller takes 2 AA batteries required. Best Regards, Leapfrog

Is this just the controller?

Yes. You only get one controller with the game system so this is only the controller if you want to play 2 player games.

Controller's d-pad drifts to right constantly, does not allow to select anything due to the drift, how do i reset the d-pad?

It means the controller is going bad. And about to quit working
