DONT DO THAT. stay at the recommenced distance. after the initial coat i couldnt get the next coats to make it uniform. Make full sweeps across your surface and taper off the edges so you dont get stop lines. As it states, the more coats you apply the darker it gets. Thats what i ended up with, but im satisfied with the product and the look. The clear coat looks great and is easier to apply.
