First Alert Fire Extinguisher, Automotive Use

When I first purchased my car, one of the essential items on my list was a fire extinguisher, and I ended up choosing the FIRST ALERT AUTO5 Car Fire Extinguisher. Although I haven’t had to use it (thankfully!), I feel a lot more secure knowing it's there, just in case. Having this extinguisher on hand gives me peace of mind, especially during road trips or when driving through more remote areas. One of the best things about this extinguisher is its compact size. It’s small enough to fit in the trunk of my car or even under the passenger seat without taking up much space. For anyone with a smaller car or limited storage, this is ideal. Despite its size, it feels functional and sturdy, like it’s built to do the job if ever needed. It doesn't feel flimsy or cheap, which is reassuring for something you may rely on in an emergency. The packaging was robust and secure when it arrived, which helped confirm the quality of the product from the start. There was no damage or wear during shipping, and everything felt tightly sealed. The extinguisher itself looks solid, and even after keeping it in my car for some time now, it still feels like new—no signs of wear or corrosion. While I haven’t had to put it to the test (and hopefully never will), the instructions are clear and easy to follow, so if an emergency were to happen, I feel confident that I could use it quickly. It’s also great to know that FIRST ALERT is a trusted brand when it comes to safety equipment, which adds another layer of confidence in the product. Overall, I think the FIRST ALERT AUTO5 is a must-have for any car owner. It’s compact, easy to store, and seems like it would work effectively in a worst-case scenario. I can’t speak to its performance directly, but everything about it—from the sturdy build to the reliable packaging—makes me feel prepared for any unexpected situations. Definitely worth having in your car for extra peace of mind!

I've had this in my car for several years now, and although I've had no reason to use it yet, I like the convenience of having it there. In particular, I like the plastic mounting bracket, as it positively retains the extinguisher and allows me to mount it on the side wall of the cargo space of my car, out of the way but within easy access of the rear hatch. This is good not just for the sake of roadside use, but also for working in the rear of the car; it's a nice piece of mind to have there if I'm doing work with black powder (or any other flammable material), which I used to do a lot back when I first purchased this extinguisher. That said, the small size that makes it convenient for mounting and handling also means it has a small discharge. Don't buy this expecting it to be able to put out a proper engine fire or other serious automotive fire on its own; its simply not big enough for that. But if you just need something light and space efficient, that can put out a small fire or potentially fight off a larger one long enough to rescue someone, then this is pretty much perfect.

Perfect size for car

Thankfully I haven't had to use this extinguisher. Small size makes it easier to find a good location to store inside vehicle.

Very nice quality, luckily haven’t had to use.

I bought a total of 5 of these to keep one in each of my vehicles as emergency extinguishers. They’re the perfect size and shape to fit easily in a trunk, center console, truck box, etc. I’ve fortunately never had to use one so I can’t speak for how well they’ll work. My only criticism is that the mounting bracket that this comes with only has holes in it designed for wall mounting. There really should be openings molded into the plastic to allow a mounting strap or molle strap or even rope to be able to secure this to a roll cage or other automobile surface. Especially considering this is marketed as being suitable for use in a vehicle fire. I doubt anyone wants to drill holes into the inside of their car to mount this. Otherwise, as stated it’s a well made unit that’s a compact size and is priced competitively.

Safety is important everywhere.

I haven't used this, and of course I hope not to. So I'm reviewing on appearance, size, and expected functionality. It was hard to find a short, smaller extinguisher for the corner of my trunk, but this fits perfectly. Even the next size up, with the conventional metal squeeze-handle design, was a little too tall, fit awkwardly, and the handles hit the contours of the sidewall. Not having handles that stick out, and being shorter, this is ideal. The only other alternative is an aerosol-can style extinguisher - the kind that look like a spray duster. I'm sure they are better than nothing, but this is a "real" extinguisher that should last longer in terms of "shelf life", while also being more powerful (I hope). It also comes with a nice bracket that you can mount anywhere, but I did not require it for where I wanted this.

The First Alert Fire Extinguisher is the ultimate backseat hero, earning a blazing 5-star rating! Compact yet powerful, this red lifesaver is designed specifically for cars, making it a must-have for every vehicle. It's easy to store and even easier to use, providing peace of mind on the road. Whether you're dealing with an engine mishap or an unexpected roadside fire, this extinguisher has got your back, ready to douse flames in seconds. Its sturdy design and clear instructions ensure you're prepared for any fiery surprise. Don't let its small size fool you—this little extinguisher packs a punch, proving that good things do come in small, fire-fighting packages!

Good

Luckily we haven't had the need to use this fire extinguisher but we love the compact size and light weight of this product. We got a couple for our Airbnb and it just feels safe to have one around which can be easy places in any space and easily addressed.

If you own a camper, and want a 1 shot extinguisher then this is the play. I fired the thing off and the amount of foam/retardent that comes out is truly impressive, it will instantly fill a truck camper to the point of blinding you and saturate everything. All slide in truck camper owners i think should have this bolted to a wall somewhere. We also lit a fire about 2ft in diameter and it extinguished it in less than 2 seconds. Be aware, when you pull the plastic pin to arm it, you REALLY need to yank on that pin, dont be shy to use a lot of strength.
