The soft close feature took some time to get used to, but I don't think I can ever be without it, I find myself accidentally slamming all of my other cabinet doors now. If for some reason you don't like the soft close feature it can be turned off by sliding the little switch located on the inside of the hinge, then it will operate about 95% of a normal hinge with a slight dampening effect right at the end of the swing to avoid a slam. These have been installed for 6 months now with absolutely no issues to report. I am confident these will last a very long time. Different cabinet door edge styles will vary- however for shaker styles with nearly no outer-edge routing taken away around the door border, 3 seems ideal. This product is still the old, standard, soft-close model. It works excellently.
