The recording time of a 32GB card is about 2.5-3.5 hours.
The recording time of a 64GB card is about 5-7 hours.
The recording time of a 128GB card is about 10-14 hours.
The recording time of a 256GB card is about 20-28 hours.
This dash cam mini has loop recording and automatic locking function, new video will overwrite old video, but locked important files will not be overwritten.
It is recommended to choose VIOFO 128GB MLC NEND SD card for more stable operation and high compatibility.

Does this unit need plugged into a USB port or cigarette lighter to work

There are three different power supply options for this A119 Mini dash cam.

1. Use the original car charger connected to the cigarette lighter.
2. Connect  the original car charging cable to the USB port of the mobile power
3. Use the VIOFO HK4 hardwire cable (Please refer to https://www.amazon.com/VIOFO-Hardwire-Voltage-Protection-Parking/dp/B09MRVP2PX)

Why does my camera keep protecting videos randomly. Ever time I drive it beeps and protects videos without me pressing the button, help me please

Not sure if this will help you or not. My Mini kept announcing “file locked ‘ for no apparent reason. Examination of the card showed this was not true; there were no files in the RO subdirectory where files are moved when protected nor were any files in read-only mode via the file attributes. Changing the g-sensor had no effect.

Went back and forth with Viofo; they were very supportive but unable to provide a definitive answer. Eventually, I bought a Mini 2 on the assumption I had a bad unit. Surprise! The Mini 2 did exactly the same thing.

That indicated the camera wasn’t the issue. I was pretty sure the USB cable was good, so I started looking at the power supply. The car has only one power socket that’s controlled by the ignition; because I needed 2 sockets for 2 dash cams, one forward and one rear, I used a SuperOne 180W 2-Socket Cigarette Lighter Adapter from Amazon to split the outlet and used a AINOPE USB C Car Charger Port,PD36W QC36W in one of the sockets. I had the Mini (front facing) plugged into one of the sockets in the charger port with the second rear-facing camera plugged into a port on the SuperOne.

To test whether it was the SuperOne splitter at fault, I swapped in a SuperOne I knew was good from another vehicle. To simplify as much as possible, I removed the charger port and plugged both cameras into the SuperOne.

The “file locked” messages no longer occur. I’m not certain if the charger port was triggering the message or whether it’s the combination of the splitter plus the charger port. But it does appear that use of the splitter/charger port combination triggers a condition in the camera for the crash detection - I suspect it’s low voltage because of the stacked devices.

Anyway, if you’re using a splitter or a charge port adapter I would try minimizing the number of devices and trying to get as close to plugged in to the power socket as possible.

Must I have wi-fi for the app on my phone to communicate with the dash cam? What if I'm in the country side where there isn't any wi-fi available?

It connects via Wi-Fi directly to phone, instead of Bluetooth to give higher transmission speeds. It's not going through a Wi-Fi network.
