There is optimised quartz sand mixture which allows rapid root cultivation and promotes the circulation of water. And it is nitrate and phosphate free. The Tetra Plant range provides everything you need for healthy plants, from setting up the aquarium to keeping it in top condition. Directions Pour Tetra Complete Substrate into the aquarium. The bottom should be covered with an even layer 2-4 cm thick. Cover the substrate with approximately Active or aquarium gravel. Safety Warning Use with caution. Keep out of reach of children and pets. Do not swallow. Use gloves and avoid contact with skin and eyes. Store in a cool, dry place away from heat sources and compatible chemicals. **Q: I have a 38 x 15 inch tank. I want between 3-4 inches coverage. How many tubs would I need please**
A: Hi, l have a Jewel Rio 125 aquarium which is 81cm x 36cm x 50cm (approx 36 x 14 x 19 inches). I bought 2 tubs of tetra substrate 10kg but only used one. I covered the bottom of my tank with this about 2 inches deep and then laid finer sand on top as l thought the substrate would be a little too course for my Cory's. I needed a base layer as l have live plants. If you are going to use just this then maybe you will need 2 tubs. I hope this answers your question.

**Q: What colour would you describe the substrate as please … thank you**
A: It is dark.

**Q: Is this product shrimp safe i.e. doesn't contain copper as a trace nutrient?**
A: I'm not sure if it contains copper but I use it and also have shrimp and they seem fine. Not had any issues.

**Q: What is the benefit of the complete substrate over the active substrate?**
A: You use them together the complete substrate goes on the bottom of the tank and releases nutrients slowly, the active substrate allows the plants roots to grow down into the active substrate easier as it isn’t as heavy and it leaves small gaps for the roots to push between.

Great substrate for fish tank

Although I've had many aquarium in the past, this is my first planted tank. This product was recommended to me and hasn't disappointed. Everything I have planted in it has grown really well. I used their Total Substrate to capture it. Remember to add this to the aquarium first and then water second or you'll end up with a muddy cloud (I learnt that the hard way!) for 24 hours. Very recommended product. I used a whole tub in a 100l tank 60" x 30" and got a really deep covering and so didn't need to supplement with any root tab.
