Isn't that also true if you put them in a box?** A: Always wash your hands after touching them as they are poisonous. I personally used these without the box and put them behind drawers and in places where children and animals cannot get. I found them to be more effective and the mouse actually ate them when they were not in the box **Q: I have either large brown mice, or brown rat in garden. If I use this in a tamper proof box, does it kill in the box, or do they die elsewhere?** A: They (rats or mice) generally go in and eat the bait and sometimes take some back to their nest... I have never found a dead animal either in or near the box . It doesn't work immediately so they seem to go as die somewhere else.
