I don't care for spicy-hot, but a bit of peppery bite is good. What I've done in the past is add a few shakes of dried red chili flakes into jars of regular pickles, so I'll do the same with these. There is very little sweetness evident, at least in this batch, although sugar is listed as an ingredient.
