Haven't tried the supplied in-ear phones, but the sound through my Samson headphones is terrific. Battery life excellent so far. Niggles: the digital display looks rather old-fashioned (and/or Chinese?). The player pauses/hiccups between CD tracks, which when you're listening to a continuous work, e.g. an opera, is decidedly intrusive and unwanted.
