## Description

A local’s treasure map to the sites where Parisians know to go to be oh-so-Parisian. Finally, the “must-do, must-visit, must-see” travel list given to you by the Parisian friend you’ve been longing to have. Charmingly illustrated throughout, this practical guide will transport readers to the delightful sites and discoveries of Paris. Vibrant watercolors illustrate destinations including architectural marvels, gardens, historical highlights, cultural hubs, markets, food and wine favorites, and lots of little “je ne sais quoi’s” that make Paris so magical. Cultural musings, accessible histories, anecdotes, and informative details accompany the illustrations throughout, making this volume truly as practical as it is beautiful. The book features seven specially curated daylong walking tours. Winsome watercolor maps of the “promenades” with colorful icons of suggested sites guide readers through the romantic, winding Parisian streets, passing cafés, historical sights, small galleries, outdoor markets, and the kind of authentic and timeless places that one hopes to find when imagining the city. The careful artistry, insider’s musings, and approachable readability—both visually and texturally—in this book will delight and inspire tourists and armchair travelers alike.

Review: An inspired book that's beautiful to use and look at - This is such an inspired book with many facets. First, it's a practical guide to an insider's favorite areas, written with knowledge, experience, and a love for the city. Second, it's a book filled with beautiful watercolor art illustrating some of the of the magic of Paris. Combined it's a very helpful book to use both while planning and when touring. Lastly, it's a book that pays tribute to Paris and its charms and is not one of those guide books that become dated very quickly. It's a timeless book that's become a part of my libray of books on traveling and art.
Review: Very useful book to discover Paris - We just got back from Paris and used this book to guide some of our walks. In short -- it's definitely a very useful book to escape the typical tourist crowds and enjoy a bit of Paris as locals live it (or so it seemed). It does have a feel of getting tips from a friend who lives in the city and knows the nice spots. For example, we were very impressed with the Belleville & Buttes-Chaumont walk -- the parks are beautiful and provide a nice break from the hectic museums. The suggestions for Montmartre were useful as well: for example, start at the top of the hill and make it downstairs as opposed to upstairs -- simple advice, but very helpful. Saint-Germain-des-Pres was aslo a nice walk -- especially, Jardin du Luxemburg and the Ecole Nationale Superiore Des Beaux-Arts. The latter is not very obvious to find, but was very interesting to visit and see how the projects by the students and their church studio. On another walk during the night of the museums -- the Museum of Hunting and Nature was a blast of surrealism! :) The maps in the book are not very detailed. n some cases, but it was not a problem for me because I was using google maps in conjunction. Another advice is to check if/when the places on the route open -- sometimes the cafes/shops/art galleries mentioned in the book were either permanently closed, or closed at the time when we were there. For example, Le Plateau on page 93 is only open Wednesday to Sunday, 2–7pm. Bugada & Cargnel looked promising, but is currently closed to public. Bottom line -- check the places before you head out.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ See more of the real Paris - and skip the standing on line
*by A***3 on January 12, 2020*

This book provides fantastic destinations that are not the crowd-packed destinations covered in the standard Paris guides. The authors’ organization of destinations by walking an Arrondissement makes it easy to learn Paris more like a local than a tourist - and you can quickly locate destinations in the book while afoot because of the map in front and table of contents. Though there are too many places to take in on one trip, every recommendation is high quality, from quirky shops to off-the-beaten path historical destinations to wonderful shops and eateries. I brought back Jacques Genin chocolates as gifts and wear a daily reminder of Le Slip Français. Restaurant Kunitoraya is not to be missed for its udon dishes - despite the waiting line. I have to believe similar for L’As du Fallafel since the line was too long both times I tried to get there. Belleville/Butte-Chaumont was delightfully ethnic and, as well-described by the authors, more down-to-earth than the downtown destinations. The list of wonderful places I visited because of this book is too long but every experience the highest quality. This book deserves high praise even though I am sad that it will become a victim of its own success - I so enjoyed visiting the destinations without the crowds. I have gifted this book twice to travelers to Paris. I return to it regularly back home to reminisce about the places I visited - and make plans for my return.
