The way it works is, that there are two waterproof strips that form a barrier to protect the content inside the pouch. The material is smooth and waterproof which needs to be closed properly which means - there should not be any gap or dust or soil or sand in between the top strips which creates a waterproof barrier for the content inside the pouch. If you fail to close properly, then even in less water, the water can easily enter inside. But if closed properly, then not matter how long or how deep you go inside the water, it will still stay intact. Also if you are above water and throw this closed pouch on water, it will stay afloat, it wont drown, unless you are putting something very heavy inside it. I took it traveling round the world with me for 3 months by myself and it was absolutely ideal because it protects everything in damp climates and also under water. I even used it just to keep my valuables in in my suitcase, just in case it ever got wet. It is comfortable to wear and isn't too bulky either. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who wants to keep things dry - it does the job. I even took it Tubing in Laos, where it got bashed around and it still kept everything completely dry.
