Perfect for Converting Older Rain Bird Valves to a Battery Timer Setup
I bought this while converting some older Rain Bird irrigation valves over to a DC setup so I could run everything from a battery-operated timer in a remote area without power. Honestly, it worked out great.Installation was pretty straightforward, the solenoid swapped over easily, and the controller has been reliable so far. It’s really nice being able to automate irrigation without running AC power or complicated wiring across the property.If you’re trying to modernize an older irrigation setup or build an off-grid watering system, this is a really solid option.

Orbit has changed the adapter design!
FYI. I have had several of the Orbit solenoid adapters, that come with this solenoid, break and result in water leaks around the adapter and the valve's inability to shut off the water. This is caused by the wall around the o-ring failing during the tightening of the adapter when installing it in the solenoid. It is very difficult to "feel" when the adapter/solenoid is tight enough so thus very easy to over-tighten and cause the o-ring wall to break. When the wall breaks the o-ring can shift out of position and leak.From visual inspection of the adapter in my latest purchase from Amazon, it seems obvious that Orbit is aware and has changed the design of the adapter to make it more robust and customer proof. Time will tell if the changes fix the problem...but thank you Orbit for the re-design. See attached images for details.
