Over half of each ladder consists of grade-level words, but there is some challenging vocabulary mixed in as well!The clues are twofold and consist of a) instructions to change certain letters and b) a definition. Part A can be somewhat confusing as reading terms such as "blend" and "digraph" are used; these are defined in the front of the workbook but are not a part of many elementary students' working vocabulary. My son, however, is largely able to figure out the part of the word that needs to be changed. I need to offer a clue for probably 1-2 words per ladder, and he ends up learning a few new words each week.
