I was able to dial in things just where I like them -- sure it's gimmicky -- and I thought the same until I tried it-- it's gimmicks work for me. It's also an attractive mechanical pencil and feels like an instrument rather than just a writing device. I have MANY mechanical pencils that I have collected over the years. This one is one oof my favorites to hold and play with as I write or draw. I often change up the pencil I am using for drawing or writing, and I keep coming back to this one. If you collect mechanical pencils, you should get this one. If you have use of it's adjustable features, you should get this one. If you just want a good writer or a good drafting pencil, you can get cheaper pencils that will serve you as well or better than this pencil. The tip length is adjustable so when I'm drafting I can make it longer to clear the square or shorter when writing.
