I needed a black one to match my chimney pot and I don't like the ones that are held on by a metal band clamp. I'm actually really pleased with how it looks on the pot. It's very sturdy and we'll made. I installed it by tipping it back at an angle to get the first legs in then there is enough movement to 'bend' them in one by one. The hardest bit is doing the last couple as it's a fine line keeping it tipped back enough without any of the others popping back out. It took a few go's to finish it. Once it's in it seems to hold well by itself. It maybe could have done with an extra coat of paint but I thought it was okay and I didn't bother. It's actually improved the burning of the stove as we are now getting a lot more flame with a lot less air (almost none), as it's keeping more heat in the chimney. Will be buying two more for my other pots. Need more rain to know for sure its working as I need it to but shouldn’t have to wait too long, especially as we live in the Scottish Highlands. Review: Really well made and they will last for years - As we're plagued with jackdaws trying to nest in our chinneys having a barrier to stop them is essential. I've used all sorts of cowls and covers over the years and none have been anywhere as well made as these ones. I bought 3 for my house and all were easy to fit except one which had a slightly smaller diameter chimney to fit into. Although I am quite strong I found bending the vertical rods into the smaller chimney to be a major struggle as they are very thick and have limited flexibility. However, once fitted I know we will have no worries about this cover ever being blown off in strong winds. Really well made, they fix securely to the chimney with no tools required and they are a great price too. Have bought 5 to stop rainwater getting down some disused chimneys pots on a functional stack - Pretty good l suppose - fairly solid in construction. They do take a bit of getting in so it’s difficult to imagine them being blown out by a high wind. I have another chimney stack to rebuild so will probably get more to sort out the disused chimney pots on that one. I wouldn’t spend £80 on the clay cowels from a builders supply yard.
