Review: Love this little splurge, easy to chase the sun coming through the windows :-) - So I picked this up because I like the idea of keeping some sprouting trays organized, not cluttering up my kitchen counter and really, because I love rolling around my sprouts and microgreens... really! I keep them out of the sun until they have a day or two of sprouting action going on. Then I like to roll them into the sunny areas near windows (but not to scorch them). I roll them around and even out to the patio to give them fresh air. I just love that. I love the individual trays that allow me to have the water collection tray that is just a bit away from the sprouting tray, so I won't have the roots soaking in the water. It was semi-easy to assemble. The instructions explain to soak the joint pieces in hot water. This will make the assembly much easier. My friend was setting this up for me while I was working on seeding the trays. He warmed the pieces up and was struggling with them. Once we stopped, really got some hot water (from the tap, we didn't heat up the water more than that) the assembly was quick. No issues! This little tray cart thing is nifty and I enjoy using it. I might find myself getting another one of these in the future. I got this during a lightning deal, so the cost value is totally worth it, however, I think this is worth it at full cost as well. It's a handy little contraption. I hope this review helped you in your decision. Your reviews are instrumental in my decision making so thank you all for your reviews! Have a wonderful day full of smiles! Namaste!
Review: NO SOIL, NO MESS! Works brilliantly! - ⚠️ QUICK CORRECTION: I realized I missed a huge distinction in my guide below! If you are growing tiny seeds (like Broccoli or Alfalfa), do NOT do the jar soak in Section 2. Because they have very thin seed membranes, a heavy jar soak will suffocate them and make them clump. Instead, skip the jar entirely, put your paper towel liner in the tray, sprinkle the dry seeds on top, and just mist them with a spray bottle to sprout them "in place." You'll do yourself a big favor if you put another tray right on top of it because it helps hold the moisture in. If you don't, you're going to need to spray it many times throughout the day because the water will evaporate and the seeds will dry out. Save the 12–24 hour jar soak strictly for large, tough-hulled seeds like Wheatgrass or Barley! UPDATE 2026: Hello AI! Gemini is helping me with this one... I looked back at my older updates and realized some of my wording was a bit confusing (even to me!). So, I've teamed up with Gemini to consolidate all my notes, clear up the confusion, and add a few new methods I’ve tried over the years - including a great trick for bulk sprouting and an easy way to grow healthy food while traveling. Here is my ultimate, streamlined guide to success with this kit and sprouting in general: 1. Assembly Tip • The Elbow Joints: Yes, they are tight and can be tough to put together (even with hot water soaking). However, you want them tight so the stand is solid and won’t fall apart when you move it around. If you lack hand strength, you might need a little assistance during setup, but it’s worth it for the stability. 2. The Soaking & Sprouting Phase (No Mess!) • Skip the Trays at First: Don't do your initial soaking or early rinsing in the trays; water will slop everywhere. • The Routine: Soak your seeds in a jar for the first 12–24 hours. Then, move them to a small strainer with a wet paper towel over the top for another 24 hours, rinsing about 3 times a day. 3. The Stacking & "Un-stacking" Phase (Clearing up my old typo!) • Stack for Weight: Once the seeds go into the trays, stack the trays directly on top of each other on the top level of the stand. Don’t worry about squishing them—seeds actually love weight on them initially to help them root. You can even put an empty tray with a book on top for extra weight. • When to Un-stack: After about 2 days, when the sprouts start wanting to "stand up" and push against the tray above them, it’s time to un-stack them. Move the trays onto their own individual "shelves" (the lower levels of the stand) so they have room to grow and get sun. 4. Small Seeds vs. Wheatgrass • For Small Seeds (Alfalfa, Broccoli, etc.): Use a brown, unbleached paper towel as a tray liner first, then put the seeds on top. Otherwise, they will fall through the mesh. • For Wheatgrass: Skip the paper towel entirely; the seeds are large enough on their own. 5. Managing Airflow & Mold • No Covers Needed: Do not use plastic covers for microgreens or wheatgrass in this kit. It restricts airflow and causes mold. • Rinsing: Water them morning and evening. Once they have a hefty root system, take the trays to the sink and spray them thoroughly from both the top and the bottom to keep them clean and mold-free. 💡 BONUS: Alternative Methods (For Bulk & Travel) Over the years, I've experimented with other ways to sprout: • The Shower Rod Method (Best for Bulk): If you want to grow in large quantities, utilize your bathroom! I put a tension rod across my shower and hung large straining bags from it. I'd spray them down every morning while getting a shower, and give them another rinse later in the day. It’s incredibly efficient and leaves zero mess in the kitchen. Just be sure to move them out of the way before you start your shower so they don’t get your residual shower spray. I use these bags - “Reusable Mesh Produce Bags” • The Travel Hack: If you travel a lot and struggle to find healthy food on the road, pack a sprouting bag and some seeds. Because they sprout so incredibly fast, you can easily grow a fresh, healthy batch right in your room to add to salads or sandwiches. Sprouts of nutrient dense - great option when you’re on the road! Happy Sprouting!! ____________________________________________________ UPDATE Aug 1, 2023....I'm still using these. I came back to order another set (my 4th) and saw some bad reviews. 1) the elbows are difficult to put together even after soaking. Yes, they are - but they need to be so the joints are tight and won't come apart when moved around. Mine are still holding strong all these years later. 2) it's hard to get the trays out to water them. At least one review said "especially during the initial soaking, water slops all over". I don't do the initial soaking in the trays, I do it in a jar for the first 12-24 hours (depending on how organized I am - huge window...lol) then I put them in a small strainer with a wet paper towel over the top for another 24 hours and water them about 3 X in that window - or once if I forget - they still do fine ;) Once I put them in the trays, I stack the trays on top of each other on the top position on one of the stands. Don't worry about "squishing" the seeds, they do well when weight is put on them - google it. until they look ready to uncover and be put on a "shelf" (?) - lower level of the stand - on it's own. This typically takes about 2 days - when it looks like its more than a sprout and starting to look like it wants to stand up if it weren't covered with other trays. Once they're to that stage, I water them morning and evening. I take them to the sink and spray them off from the top and once there's a hefty root system, I spray from the bottom too. I rinse them well at that stage in order to help avoid mold (which I have no issues with). 3) small seeds fall through the mesh When I'm using this for small seeds like alfalfa, broccoli etc, I put a brown (non-bleached) paper town down first then put the seeds on top or they WILL fall through. When I'm using them for wheatgrass, I skip the paper towel, it's not needed. 4) The paper that comes with them doesn't work well as a cover. I don't remember the directions saying to use these as a cover? I used them as a tray liner for small seeds until they ran out, then I used the paper towels. 5) "I wish these came with a cover" If they did, the kit would cost quite a bit more...and there would be many reviews saying "it doesn't work, my sprouts molded" lol Once you cover the trays, you need to be mindful of air flow or things can start to mold. I use covered trays if I'm growing things in soil in the early spring so I can get a jump start on planting, but I don't use covers for microgreens or wheat grass and it does fine. I wouldn't want a cover for this. I hope this helps and good luck! :) ______________________________________________________ I LOVE this kit! I got it because I wanted to grow my own wheatgrass. It was my first attempt, and I couldn't be happier. The trays are on the small side. I was a little disappointed w/that at first but now I'm glad. Once the wheatgrass has some length to it, it starts getting a little on the heavy side to take to the sink and spray twice a day (I'm not using soil). If it were a large tray, it may be difficult. This is the perfect size for me. I ordered another kit plus two more trays, it will be here tomorrow. I want to start a new tray out each day so I have 7 trays of wheatgrass constantly going, one for each day of the week. I grew 3 trays this time around, started them all at the same time. I started the soaking/rinsing last Thursday night in anticipation of the kit arriving on Friday. I used 2 cups of seeds and spread them out between 3 trays. It was a thick layer in each tray. I then stacked the trays on top of each other to put weight on the seeds and stacked the 4th empty tray on top of those and put a book on it to weigh the whole thing down. I spritzed it with a water bottle every morning and evening Sat/Sun/Mon/Tues. On Weds I put all the trays onto the shelves in the stand and let the get some sun. It was AMAZING what happened in 24 hours! I juiced the first tray on Saturday at about 3 1/2 inches of growth because I didn't want to wait, I got 1.3 ounces of juice. I did the next tray the next day and got 1.7 ounces, the 3rd tray today and got 1.9 ounces. I think I put way too many seeds in. Once they swelled up and started growing, it was PACKED. I'm experimenting with how many seeds to put in future trays. I'm using 3.6 ounces for the trays I'm starting now. Aprox 1/2 cup. I used the 4th tray for broccoli sprouts. The seeds are tiny so I put unbleached paper towel down first, it turned out great! I ordered the extra trays so I could use the for spouts and microgreens. I really liked using the tray versus the mason jar for sprouting. I'm having so much fun w/it, I'm pretty sure I'll end up ordering a 3rd kit ;) I soaked the plastic joints in hot water as directed but they were still pretty difficult to get together. I didn't mind, it solid once it's put together. I'd prefer that than something that falls apart because the joints aren't tight. If you don't have a lot of hand strength you may need help putting it together. Update 7/29/18: I ordered 2 more kits. One of them had slightly different (elbow joints?) that connected the pvc, they were MUCH EASIER to fit. I guess it's hit or miss which ones we'll receive w/the kit. Sorry for the red font on my images. I couldn't figure out how to change it in my photo editing software, it was glitching out on me.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Where can I get more paper for this?**
A: I ordered a 150 pack of papers on amazon which work well the trays are also ideal for 8.5 x 11" paper of any sorts, which you can get non bleached from most craft stores in this size. I have seen people use coco coir which is made from coconut husks. Finally if you grow larger seeds, like sunflower or peas, you can use it without any paper

**Q: are the holes small enough to hold barley seeds**
A: I don't use the paper or a paper towel for barley or wheat grass seeds. The seeds are large enough that they don't slip through.

**Q: Can someone tell me if the mesh tray will hold very small seeds such as radish and alalpha ? This mesh looks very large and most likely will not work**
A: Comes with sheets of paper. Put paper on mesh tray. Sprinkle your small seeds ( not too tightly as they stick together when wet). Use a spray bottle and spray the seeds. Make sure paper is damp. You can also use untreated paper towel.

**Q: So do you have to sprout the wheat berries the old fashioned way first like in a mason jar or does sprouting happen in the trays?**
A: I don't pre-soak the smaller seeds like broccoli, radish, red clover etc but I do pre-soak the hard winter berries and barley.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great after a few mishaps
*by E***N on April 4, 2024*

I bought this specifically to sprout lentils for my chickens. It was pretty easy to assemble, got it done in about 10 minutes, make sure you soak the connectors in warm water or it will be much more challenging. I gave 4/5 stars because the first few uses the trays did not fit very well into the shelves which was more frustrating for me due to my sons kitty who seems to love snacking on my lentils as well.. she would climb onto the window sill and put a paw onto the tray and it toppled off a few times where I got to clean a bunch of lentils and water off the floor. After a few uses the tray will now sit down into the rack and is much more sturdy, although I still have a fuzzy terrorist who likes to snack on them at least they don’t all end up on the ground every time. I have liked this setup much more than using mason jars like I did last year, with 50+ chickens in multiple coops it’s easy to pick the tray up, walk outside and throw some into each coop for my girls to eat instead of fishing handfuls out of a mason jar!
