Will this hard drive mirror the hard drive in my laptop and work for a full system restore in the event I have hard drive failure?

Absolutely but you ought to make a backup first.

can i use this with my ps4

I use mine with a DISH receiver. I don't know if it will work with a PS4. I recommend you telephone the PS4 technical help desk and give them the specifications for the Verbatim drive when you ask about using the drive with a PS4. I used this procedure with DISH and they gave me the information I needed. The drive itself is excellent. Hope this helps.
