So i needed a connector to connect my mac ssd to windows. However got the enclosure which reads the files perfectly of ssd from 2017 macbook air.

For the price you pay, it's a bit gross this overheats and ejects. Worked fine ONCE.

This shell is made extremely well and works as such. However if you are planning on using it as external storage for an old drive taken out of a macbook pro, you may run into problems. I took the old SSD out of my 2015 Macbook Pro and put it in the case. I then plugged it into my 2021 M1 Max Macbook Pro and it initially read the SSD, but then quickly disconnected it. I tried multiple times to plug it back in and format it and the SSD just wont cooperate with my newer macbook pro. I then used the adapter that came with the case and inserted a new WD Black NVME SSD and it worked flawlessly. So its definitely the old 2015 SSD thats the problem. Once I got my 2015 SSD replaced, I put the old 2015 SSD back in the case and tried it on my 2015 Mac. It worked perfectly.So I believe the problem is those old SSDs just dont mesh with the newer hardware and software of newer machines. Other than that, the case itself is a mighty fine product. I was impressed with the quality. It'll work perfect if you need to use it to extract files off an old mac SSD or want to use and old mac SSD for storage. It connects perfectly on an older Mac.

Easy to set up, fast performance connected to an iMac USB Thunderbolt. Runs hot though although no Thermal Problems (Throttling etc) per se, definitely a cheaper alternative to the OWC enclosure but for Mac your limited wih choice with a spare drive on your hands. Nice touch the apapter being Thunderbolt 3 and Regular USB 3 running Bootcamp Windows at the moment can transfer from iMac to MacBook Pro and Boots equally well on both Machines.Not tested the enclosed converter however its handy to have if you wish to upgrade either internally or externally with a non proprietary drive at a later date.

Upgraded early MacBook Pro 2015 13" hard drive. Used this enclosure to house the Apple SSD I removed and transfer data after installing OS X on the new hard drive. Worked like a champ. No issues. Enclosure housing is sturdy and sleek. Two nitpicks, 1 the face plate is a little awkward. Would have nice if it was attached to the board and pulled out as one unit instead of being screwed in, 2 not a fan of the SDD support when the hard drive is installed. It could be supported better. It's solid but I would just feel better if there was support more than just the two ends of the SDD. I think the gap helps with airflow and cooling.

Work great, the case is robust, a solid product.

My daughter used this when her old Macbook Air 2015 died. It was easy to fit the old HD and she was able to rescue everything since her last backup (10 days' work while travelling). A great relief!
