## Questions & Answers

**Q: this or blue yetti usb ?**
A: Entirely depends on your budget and what you're doing with it.Blue Yeti is a *really* good USB mic. Great sound, great build quality. Easy to just set up and use.NT1-A is a very detailed, excellent quality microphone with a crisp high-end (possibly too crisp for some uses). They are both good value for money in their own price ranges.I assume you're recording on a computer, so while the Yeti is USB and plugs straight into your computer and away you go, the NT1-A is an XLR mic with a proper mic cable, and will require an additional interface before your computer will be able to hear it - a Scarlett 2i2 is possibly a good first choice if you're new to this sort of thing. So the NT1-A is a versatile and good quality mic - and excellent value for money - but will need you to buy extra equipment to make it work with a computer. You should also work out if it's not more than you need for what you're doing.Podcasting, YouTube vids, the Yeti is definitely a good choice. Maybe for other things too. It's really versatile and performs well above its price tag in all sorts of situations.I hope that helps.

**Q: Hi, if this doesn't plug into my laptop? How would I get to record it through this?/how would i get to test that it works????**
A: Hi Emma, If you want to record direct to a laptop etc. then this microphone will need to be connected to an audio interface using the XLR type connector/cable that it comes with. The audio interface connects via USB to a USB port on your laptop, PC or Mac and also should provide the +48V power this type of mic needs to actually work. Make sure whatever you decide to buy provides this power otherwise you'll have to buy an external power supply for it and it then gets messy! There are plenty of suitable interfaces available, have a look at these http://www.dv247.com/computer-hardware/usb-audio-interfaces/ or http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_1?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=usb+audio+interface&rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3Ausb+audio+interface Focusrite, AKAI, TASCAM, Behringer, AVID are worth looking at but you'll find lots more if you hunt around and ebay is a good source of used ones too.You can also plug this microphone directly into a decent audio recorder like the Zoom H4n which has XLR connectors as well as the regular jack sockets and it can also provide the +48V phantom power the microphone needs.Hope I haven't confused you too much, happy hunting.Tony

**Q: Can this microphone be plugged in to a DSLR camera, such as a Nikon d5100, for use during film?**
A: You would need to get an adapter so that the camera can take an XLR input if it doesn't have one already. But even so there are better microphone specially designed for camera and video. Depends what your budget is. Also this microphone has a fairly large pick-up radius so it'll a lot of background noise if you're filming outside or your desired sound you are trying to capture is far away from the mic. Hope this was helpful :)

**Q: Would this be good for voice over?**
A: Hi Luke, In many ways the NT1-A is the ideal mic for studio narration where you can control the conditions i.e. by dampening the acoustics with curtains, screens, cushions etc. A useful test to check the dampening is to clap your hands and listen. In most cases, for narration the ambience needs to be reasonably flat. You will find the 'pop' screen supplied with the mic to be an asset. If you need further 'anti-popping' get hold of a foam wind gag. Another tip, when recording a male voice, you may need to 'lighten' it by introducing bass cut, if you have that facility on your recorder. If not use the (free download)Audacity program and go to 'Effects' where you can select and experiment with a degree of Bass cut. Without it, some studio mics can sound a bit 'woofy' although I've found the Rode to offer quite a nice bright sound without too much bass cut. Best of luck, Graham
