**Q: Are the wall hanging brackets pre-attached and can they be removed? I would like to use heavy duty velcro which will suffice in strength.**
A: The brackets are separate, but the metal loop is permanently attached to the back of the mirror, but i suppose they could be sawn off

A: Maybe a centimetre or so?  But looks very flush to the wall from front and side
