One of Vanity Fair's Books That Will Get You Through This Winter“One of the most uniquely fun and campily gory books in my recent memory... A Certain Hunger has the voice of a hard-boiled detective novel, as if metaphor-happy Raymond Chandler handed the reins over to the sexed-up femme fatale and really let her fly." —The New York TimesFood critic Dorothy Daniels loves what she does. Discerning, meticulous, and very, very smart, Dorothy’s clear mastery of the culinary arts make it likely that she could, on any given night, whip up a more inspired dish than any one of the chefs she writes about. Dorothy loves sex as much as she loves food, and while she has struggled to find a long-term partner that can keep up with her, she makes the best of her single life, frequently traveling from Manhattan to Italy for a taste of both. But there is something within Dorothy that’s different from everyone else, and having suppressed it long enough, she starts to embrace what makes Dorothy uniquely, terrifyingly herself. Recounting her life from a seemingly idyllic farm-to-table childhood, the heights of her career, to the moment she plunges an ice pick into a man's neck on Fire Island, Dorothy Daniels show us what happens when a woman finally embraces her superiority. A satire of early foodieism, a critique of how gender is defined, and a showcase of virtuoso storytelling, Chelsea G. Summers’ A Certain Hunger introduces us to the food world’s most charming psychopath and an exciting new voice in fiction. Review: It's a kindle book. It will bee fine. - The quality of the book was fine, as a product it was okay. The story is soo insufferable Review: Dark and gritty - This book is about a crazy food critic who keep taking her lovers' lives. I can see this book is not everyone but i personally loved reading this book. If you want to read about a psychotic older woman committing crimes then definitely pick this one up. There were many scenes which made me say WTF out loud. So yes, this book is not for everyone but I'll still highly recommend it.

Truly a unique book
Truly a very unique novel. Half of the references went over my head as a non-native English speaker. I had to look up everything but I enjoyed most of the book. Some details were gruesome. Also learned a lot about the meat industry. Usually I don't enjoy reading books with an endless monologue by the protagonist but I realised I didn't mind that one bit in this book.

Gripping monologue-style story that will stay with you
A Certain Hunger is a gripping monologue-style story that follows the life of Dorothy Daniels, a tenacious and passionate food critic. Despite her success in her career and love life, Dorothy's true mystery lies in her hidden identity as a serial killer. After discovering her insatiable hunger for taking lives, she becomes unstoppable in her pursuit of feeding this urge. This book contains graphic scenes of cannibalism, so be warned. Brace yourself for a thrilling and shocking storyline, narrated candidly from a first-person perspective. Dorothy's character is fascinating, as she balances her seemingly normal life with her dark secret, making for a thrilling and suspenseful read. The book is sure to surprise you with its audacious plot and keep you hooked until the very end. I found myself captivated by Dorothy's nonchalant attitude throughout the book, which made for an intriguing read. The author has masterfully portrayed her life in a way that makes you both love and be disturbed by her at the same time. With its complex language and writing style, this book is recommended for advanced readers. If you're a fan of psychological thrillers, then this book is definitely for you.
