does this pen have a good grip to hold while writing?

Yes the pen is very comfortable to use and is easy to hold and use for long periods of time.

Where can I get red or purple ink for this pen?

Your options about ink colour are limited if you stick to cartridges because this pen takes Parker cartridges, not the stubby international sized ones where more variety is available. Ultimately the answer is buy a converter and then you can use bottled in of whatever colour you like.

Can anyone tell me where you can buy replacement erasers for this pencil ?

I spoke to Parker France about replacement erasers for the Jotter pencil, as Amazon no longer stock them. I was told that they are now an obsolete item. However, give them a call they may able to send you a few out from their Spares / Repairs department.

does the metal part of the pencil tip protrude once the lead has been retracted, or does it remain proud of the barrel casing?

it remains proud as it is the tip of the pencil but the lead retracts fully into pencil
