It does work...
Likes: 1) It's a good weight (9 lbs) 2) It's VERY STURDY 3) It's "customizable" 4) The supplied nuts are nylon "locking" types - they WILL NOT "spontaneously loosen"! 5) The steel tube material is BEEFY - it won't "easily crumple, etc." with use 6) The "bracket welds" on the "tamp plate" are impressive - I don't expect them to break under "normal use" 7) Assembly is VERY EASY - the holes actually LINE UP! Dislikes: 1) As noted by other reviewers, the SCREWS are a bit long! 2) The "tamp plate" material "could" be a little thicker (i.e., by 50%?) This tamper does a Very Good Job of "compacting" yard waste (chopped blackberries, etc.) in the disposal bin. I put it together using ONLY ONE handle tube (the one with the rubber end) as that's all I needed for using it and, to my "surprise", the finished length is PERFECT for my use! Assembly: DO NOT USE the enclosed "nut wrench" - rather use a 1/2" socket and ratchet handle. Trust me, the ratchet will make tightening the nuts a lot easier. The enclosed HEX WRENCH is more than adequate for "holding" the bolts while you tighten the nuts. Yes, you can "over-tighten" the nuts a little - this will help prevent "rattling" by "compressing" the steel against itself. Bolt length: I appreciate the "generous" bolt length, however once assembled/tightened, there is "quite a bit" of protruding threads (between 3/8" and 1/2"). However, this can be alleviated by using a hacksaw or "Dremel" tool with a cutting disc to lop off the extra threads. Just remember to FILE DOWN the sharp edges afterward (especially the HANDLE bolts)! :) Otherwise, this is a Very Good "budget" tool for the "casual, etc." gardener.

Does the job
Need heavy duty handles for the prolonged usage out of this thing. It's good for a small job here and there. All you do is piece it together and then do your job. Fine for the price, and kept it for the convenience.

Flat soil, flat belly, calorie burner
Sometimes you just gotta go do man things and beat down some soil. Thats exactly what I did. Although one solid handle wouldve worked better the multi piece one still did the job. Was missing like a nut or screw or something but I made it work

Great product!
Great solid material & works well. Very sturdy & easy to grip. I have used it to level me yard for retaining walls and it works perfectly. Totally worth the buy!

Meh
This thing kind of sucks. It comes in like 4 pieces and you have to assemble with nuts and bolts that aren't threaded properly. My local hardware store sold the same damn tool for $40... Just go with that if you see it at yours.

Sturdy tool for backyard projects
I bought this steel tamper to help level some dirt and gravel for a small patio I was building, and honestly, it's been one of those "why didn't I get this sooner?" tools. It's simple, super solid, and kind of satisfying to use. The handle is just the right length so you can get some good force without killing your back, and the plate is heavy enough to do the job but not so heavy you can't lift it after ten minutes. I used it for a couple of afternoons in rocky soil, and it doesn't seem any worse for wear. Bonus: it's weirdly fun to stomp down dirt with this thing. If you need packed earth, this tamper gets it done.

Very solid
This steel tamper is very solid and well made. The 48-inch handle makes it easy to use without bending over, and the rubber grip is comfortable and secure. It’s heavy-duty and works exactly as expected, making tamping much easier and less tiring. Great quality tool and definitely worth it.

Great Quality And Value
Very good quality, much better quality (both the handle and especially the base plate) than some others I looked at in stores, and lower cost. I requires a pair of wrenches/sockets to put together, but no big deal to assemble. I would definitely recommend this over many others I saw on Amazon, and in stores.

Good balance of weight and usability
I used this while preparing the base for a shed, first to compact a sand and cement mix and then again for gravel. It worked really well for both. It’s light enough that it doesn’t become a chore to use, but still has enough weight behind it to compact the material properly. Simple tool, but it did exactly what I needed it to do and made preparing the base much easier.

素晴らしい。
錆びてくるけど、いつも使うモノではないのでコンパクトに分解出来るなのは助かります。かなり使えます。人工芝、防草シート敷きに使います。機械より静かが庭付きマンションには助かりました。
