The plastic bit covering the blades comes off but then what?** A: The whole top bit comes off (with the plastic lid and blades attached to it), you might just need to be a bit more forceful. There should be a little identation on the side, that you can "flick" the top off with. Sorry if this sounds complex, it just comes off easily on mine! **Q: How many are there** A: Hi there are 12 in this large pack an excellent rubber I use them for effects when drawing with pastels excellent for producing reflections. **Q: can you replace the blades** A: I really don’t know as I have had mine for a while now and use it daily and it’s still fine. (But I only use soft wood pencils). As for harder pencils, , I always use a good professional blade, not a plastic held one. **Q: Can it be used to sharpen any type of pencil please** A: Yes of course, as long as they are a standard size and aren't too thick.
