Review: Tasty non-alcoholic spicy falernum SYRUP—nicer than the famous alcoholic brand (IMO) - I had a bottle of falernum in days gone by—the John D. Taylor Velvet Falernum which is pretty widely available. I always thought it was disappointingly low on spiciness, and after teh bottle had sat around for a decade, and I’d drifted away from cocktail experimentation, I finally poured the remains down the drain. Recently, I saw a recipe for something which called for falernum, and found this non-alcoholic syrup here. It’s VERY flavorful, especially clove flavor, and was great in whatever I made. I’ve used it in a couple of other cocktails since, and much prefer it to the alcoholic version. You don’t need much to get a good payoff in a drink. It arrived safely and securely packaged— kind of a fancy package as I recall. I recommend it!

Lately I have been working on a homemade Velvet Falernum style clone using my own spiced rum and this syrup as the base. Tests sob far? Amazing. I think falernum is one of those magical ratios of the standard tiki ingredients that hits every time. This is a great product, and I hear I got gifted another bottle... so excited!
