For small aquariums with a medium light demand the coverage is 14" (with the bottom of the light 4" above the water). I put it at the lowest intensity, and decided even then, that 12 hours was way too long to have it on. I currently have it on for 10 hours and may raise it higher than 4" above the water. My complains: At $129.00, the gooseneck (which has cheap plastic screws, that I'll probably replace with real ones from Home Depot) should've been included. There is no shimmer that I've noticed.
