Bears vs Babies

Bought as a gift for my roommate for the holidays. Gave it early after it came because the packaging was so cool I couldn’t wait. Bears Vs Babies is more complex at first glance (go to the link on the back of the instruction manual and watch the How To Video). We played 2 player the first time, were able to pick up the rules, and played through a full game in 90 minutes. The cards are a good thickness, the gaming mat is extremely helpful (tip: read everything written on everything, else you’ll miss some minor, but funny details that make the game even more fun). The cards can be separated into Babies, Monster Building, and Action cards. No dice or anything else. Just the cards and mat are needed. Once you get going and learn, it’s a game of strategy, and playing with 2 is just as fun as playing with more. Honestly, you could get really creative and play alone (I have plenty of friends that modify table top games for this purpose). Provoking the Babies into attacking is hilarious, and collecting them when you win the war with your Monster Army is super fun. The illustrations are great and pretty detailed. The box itself is covered in synthetic “fun fur”, and is compact, so it won’t take up a huge space either. It was definitely worth the purchase price. Makes a great gift, and is suitable for teens and adults. Even my father (in his 60’s) thinks it’s hilarious.

This is an excellent game and I am proud to have been a backer—though I wish the furry box was just for us backers! :) ~Ages: I have an 'expanded version' an extra 10 or 15 cards that are NSFW (lots of penis, breast, and poop cartoons. The regular pack, imo, is completely suitable for all ages, though younger kids might have difficulty learning the game. If you or your child is sensitive to odd cartoons, I would recommend going through the pack to double check. The game will not be hurt by pulling a couple of cards out of play. We have also played by teaming up a young player with an adult. ~Number of players: the game says 2-5. With my expansion pack, I have also pushed the boundaries and played with 6. I think the game has been the most fun with 2 or 3 players. Over 3 and players don't have the opportunity to take as many 'actions' and there is less ability to strategize per 'turn'. ~Game play: The game is more complicated than Exploding Kittens. It takes a bit longer to explain and to learn. I recommend watching the how-to video. Once you understand, it is easy to teach others. Also once you get the instructions down, there is more strategy involved than kittens, which honestly has barely any strategy at all to have a good time. The game is played by creating Bears/monsters that fight other player's bears/monsters and fight Babies. Sometimes the babies beat the players. The game is won by the person who has defeated the most number of babies at the end. Strategy comes in as each player 'turn' is comprised of a certain number of 'actions' that let you build your monster/Bears or fight babies. With more players, each player has fewer actions. I plan to buy a second deck for game play of 5+ players. With an extra deck, I believe we could let players have extra actions. (Four or five player games, each player only gets 2 actions, which is very difficult to advance.)

Fun game easy to understand instructions. Quality components. I love that the playing mat is fabric so it won't fall apart so easily. The game itself was simple to play and amusing. The illustrations are well done and amusing. (Some may not be for everyone, but that feels ok brand for this brand). The art is still well done and cohesive. The mechanics of the game left some room to adjust for house rules. We still need to play a few more times to love it, because while it's easy enough to play, it sucked that last minute someone was able to swoop in and take the big pile of babies and there wasn't any stopping it or beating it at that point.

I buy things like this for my private therapy practice. This funny game has cards of different "monster" body parts, and cars for various horrendous babies (Diaper Baby, Nuclear Baby, etc). Players assemble "monsters" (it's very silly you do it according to the cards you get and whatever happens is what happens) and then "provoke" piles of other cards that are basically "babies." Whoever has the most points wins. But it's much more complex that that, you can provote other people, calm the babies down, chop off the heads of other players, and a variety of interactions that don't usually exist in a card games. Kids pick this up quickly and have great fun with it, adults are more polite. Too polite. we get creamed by the kids, basically. It takes a while to figure out but once you get it it's very entertaining and more interactive than a traditional card game. Plus, the box has fur.

My kids (9 and 11) love this game. It's so silly and playable. It is a quick set up and quick to learn and play. We loved the instructions. They teach you to play step by step and then keep adding to the set up until you become proficient. It was a great way to teach the basic gameplay. We would recommend this game to anyone looking for some family fun. We especially like the fun packaging. We realize it adds absolutely nothing to the game-but it's fun and entices up to open that box rather than the other 40 games we have!

This game was a little confusing to play at first with our upper elementary age kids, but once we figured it out it was a lot of fun. The cards are all well made and it's a fairly quick game to play, but not too short that someone wins in just a few minutes. I would say it is recommended more for teens to adults because even the preteen occasionally needs reminders on what is going on.

Purchased this for a new addition to game nights with the kids, we have several exploding kittens games and this seemed like it was going to be fun, it is. Game instructions are simple enough and if not, it comes with a pamphlet for youtube video instructions. after 3/4 games we had all the rules down and we were making monsters for hours.

5-7 of us sometimes get together after our shift ends and play games that are usually NSFW. I had been looking for a new game for us to play and something more appropriate that I could play with my whole family on our 2 week vacation each year. After I read a lot of reviews on Amazon, I moved over to videos of game play as well as reviews on YouTube. 2 days ago I finally clicked the buy button on Amazon when I was alerted that the price had dropped. It arrived yesterday and we decided to play last night. Some people said the game was better with 2-3 people, but we all had such a blast playing with the max number 5. While we were playing everyone said I should buy the NSFW expansion pack to add more cards to the deck and make it dirtier like we usually do. Needless to say, when I got home, I immediately bought the 30 dirty card expansion pack. It arrived Friday. It is an easy game to learn but at the same time it’s hard b/c someone is ALWAYS messing up the rules and getting yelled at. We also decided to add a house rule like chess…. If u let go of a card while building a monster… it must stay on the table. No take backs. I was glad everyone loved this cut throat game of stick it to ur friends. I was really afraid they would hate it, but like I said 3 games in they were demanding the the expansion pack. 1 person even offered to buy it for me. I hope this was helpful. UPDATE: the expansion pack arrived today. it comes in a tiny packagage that looks like Pokemon cards would be inside. it includes 30 dirty cards and 1 condom. on the back of the condom it says, "USE BEARTH CONTROL F.U. BABIES." I laughed so loud when I saw it. the pack also includes 1 instruction card... which only states to shuffle the cards into the deck. its useless. I sifted through the cards and they r funny, but I didnt feel like they were as dirty as people made them out to be. I really didnt see what the big hype about them being sooooo dirty was. I cant wait to hear people read out their monsters abilities the next time we play. in my opinion, they new cards aren't any raunchier than my exploding kittens NSFW deck. I will have to remove them if we sit down with my 80 year old parents, but they r definitely not as offensive as the reviews I read here or watched on YouTube.

A great game for the family. You need a wide playing field as the monsters you make take up a fair bit of space. The ridiculous images on the cards are entertaining and making the monsters is a fun experience. A bit of strategic planning is need to win, so it's a bit of a challenging game.

It's fast tot learn and it's really funny. The Box it's lovely

The creators of this, and of Exploding Kittens: A Card Game About Kittens and Explosions and Sometimes Goats , are clearly as mad as a box or two of frogs. Last year, I bought Exploding Kittens as a Christmas present for everyone and it went down extremely well. Bears vs Babies, by the same bunch of loonies, had a few quid off before Christmas this year so I bought it. The box is furry. A nice kind of fur, quite stokeable so watch out for people having a crafty feel and be sure to make fun of them. There is no real reason for this. It's a gimmick. A nice one. The game title is one to be ashamed of. I consider it terrible to think that some people might see this as condoning violence against poor, defenceless bears. Thus, I'm much relieved to find that the game would more appropriately be called 'Monsters vs Babies' as the bears play only a small part. The monsters (might be bears) you design do their best against armies of various kinds of babies and your job is to build up your monster army to defeat them. Sounds silly? Oh no - not silly at all. This game is one of deep strategy. Do you invoke the babies when you know you can defeat them with a small army and win lots of small amounts, or do you build a large army and aim to defeat (and hence win) more babies? The creators of the game have obviously spent a lot of time, in whatever asylum houses them, test playing this game. The rules are basically simple (children can play this - there's nothing actually horrific in it, unless you've been at the grown-up's juice) but there are subtle nuances that seem strange at first, but make sense once you have played a few times and got a hang of the strategy. You can't play this game on your lap - you'll need a coffee table or bigger to lay your monsters out on so don't buy it to play on a transatlantic flight - Exploding Kittens is your choice for that. So, my advice is to buy this game if you're wondering whether to shell out for it or not. If you're intending playing it with small people, it'll be fine and you'll probably have to accept defeat to your eight year old, but if you're intending it to be played amongst adults and you've imagining late nights with a chink of glasses and a game to make people look at you squinty-eyed as you force them to waste their army then you've got the right picture in your mind.

Love it, really fun for the kids as well! Plus point: the playing time is a little longer than the other kids friendly games, such as Mantis or Happy Salmon (lovely games too btw).
