For this third edition of "Distributed Systems," the material has been thoroughly revised and extended, integrating principles and paradigms into nine chapters:1. Introduction 2. Architectures 3. Processes 4. Communication 5. Naming 6. Coordination 7. Replication 8. Fault tolerance 9. SecurityA separation has been made between basic material and more specific subjects. The latter have been organized into boxed sections, which may be skipped on first reading. To assist in understanding the more algorithmic parts, example programs in Python have been included. The examples in the book leave out many details for readability, but the complete code is available through the book's Website, hosted atwww.distributed-systems.net.A personalized digital copy of the book is available for free, as well as a printed version through desertcart.com. Review: Relevant, well written, a great overview of a very broad field - It's just essential material and extremely well written, you can see why the author is a big name in computer science. If how backend systems (including cloud, grid, & cluster computers) are designed has always mystified you; if you don't exactly know the meaning of the term 'middleware'; if you want to understand the many ways that nodes in a distributed system are coordinated; if you want to familiarize with alot of very common terms you hear as a developer but which may not have been well-defined before... well, then you'll enjoy this book. It's a very broad topic, yet I still think it's covered in sufficient depth, it's very well written - concise, meaningful and accessible. Note that it is a general overview of the field - that's the point of the book, it's a very broad title. It's not a shallow treatment, but if you're (like other reviewers) expecting a deep dive into one particular aspect of distributed systems, well... think a little more clearly before you buy. 5 stars - great job! Review: A classic renewed - Decades ago I came across versions of this by Tanenbaum. The ecology of computing is changed hugely. I am hoping to read this and the 2002 incarnation of this book. It is computing history that charms me so I lover long lived classics. Donald Knuth's book did not get redone other wise I would buy it.

A good overview of distributed systems that goes to enough depth ...
A good overview of distributed systems that goes to enough depth to spark interest. Might be too much for beginners, but a good intermediate level reference.

Not sure how pragmatic is the book
The book has a lot of information and value but gets confusing. Many pieces exist if you are building a distributed system, and the book might not help. The book goes into detail and depth and is a good addition to your library if you want a lot of information about how many subjects work. However, it gets frustrating with explanations assuming many side topics that would help to understand. The book has a good reputation, and it is hard to get real feedback as I believe it teaches people not to disagree to avoid sounding like they do not understand. However, the book is hard to grasp, and it is hard to use the content when designing a real system that must really work.

Must have for distributed systems
Excellent book !

Somewhat disappointing
Covers a lot of topics, but the definitions are hard to grok and examples aren't very clear. Some things get a name, but don't get defined properly. The best sections are the more established algorithms, where the authors seem to have a better understanding and are able to convey clearer how it works.

For beginners, not for advanced readers in this area
In many places concepts are not clear.

Ottimo libro
Tanenbaum è una garanzia. Argomenti espressi con chiarezza unica, ben strutturato e con ottimo dettaglio sugli argomenti.
