The VHPA stories reflect a time when EVERY helicopter pilot faced extremely demanding tasks and had little or no history to guide him. The “Helicopter War”, and the myriad uses of the machine during same is a “book” written by those who performed the type of feats described herein. The thirty narratives, written by twenty-eight authors, contain humor, frustration, fear, excitement, and of course, sorrow. We hope this treatment will enhance the legacy and preserve the history of the young men who went to Southeast Asia to fly helicopters. It is dedicated to the senior citizens who were those young men and especially to the young men frozen in time. Review: Great stories and different perspectives - I good read. Some great perspectives from the DMZ to the Delta. I highly recommend this book if you want to re-live helicopter tales. Review: Four Stars - good book

A variety of combat experiences from various participants illustrating the unusual courage and dedication of Army aviators.
As an infantry officer, I spent considerable time in UH1's in Vietnam, both with US and Vietnamese crews. I have great admiration for those pilots. I think a higher percentage of pilots and crew members were killed in Vietnam than infantrymen. This is an excellent anthology of experiences of pilots with different viewpoints of the war. Thanks to the association that put this book together--great stories from very brave soldiers. The Vietnam War was very different in each corps (I-IV) or military region as they were called later in the war. This book samples of experiences from each.

Almost very good, taken from a pilots perspective. I did thoroughly enjoy most of the narrator, especially the descriptive way p
Without this aircraft there would have been a significantly higher casualty rate in Viet nam. Some of the pilots I knew were just plain crazy

Another Good One
This collection of Vietnam helicopter pilot stories was as terrific as the others have been. Lazares’ last collection is a wonderful addition to the previous ones. Thank you for putting all of these together. May you rest in Vietnam helicopter pilots’ heaven.

Lots of great short stories
Personal stories from the folks who were there. These people were all heroes. Flying in an underpowered aluminum can, that's truly not made to fly, while being shot at makes them heroes. Great reading and nicely compiled stories.

Good fast paced story's from the helicopter war
Good fast paced story's from the helicopter war. Each chapter is by a different author flying anything from slicks to chinooks. Good first book on this topic,

Felt more like a personal gift!
My Grandpas looked for a book called "The last flight of Ol' Yellar"...? I was sad I couldnt find it for his 79th Bday but at the last minute I found this one that sounds similar & quickly bought it. Vietnam Helicopter Pilots Association was the first thing he smiled about, then we noticed the print date ;) was the day I ordered it. Thank you
