Review: Versatile low carb tool - I Just received my chaffee/waffle maker yesterday and couldn’t wait to try making low carb “chaffle buns” for our sandwiches. ~. The initial cleaning is of course not enjoyable, but got through that. In heating it up I noticed that the red/green button was hard to tell if it was ready or not. I just guessed and gave it about 10 min. I tried to oil with a brush, but realized later that doing that just made a mess. Next time, if I lay down cheese first, I’ll know I can rely on the oil in the cheese to keep it from sticking or just use a lot less oil. ~ The chaffles came out easily after peeking a couple times. They appeared to cook evenly, (this depends upon how much filling you use too. ~ Clean up again wasn’t fun, and I tried different tools/methods to clean each waffle well. Finally used a a small round palm brush dipped in dish water and shook out the water. I scrubbed in a circle in each well and wiped up the soap with damp papertowel and used a damp clean dishcloth to clean each crevice (rinsed the cloth often). I don’t think I’ll need to clean this deeply each time I use as the cooked bits come out pretty cleanly. (I’m thinking how cast iron pans work). As far as the Chaffle? Wow, it was one of the best sandwiches we’ve both had. Hubby said he’d expect to have something like this in a restaurant. The chaffle was made by laying down sprinkling of cheddar cheese to cover bottom, a beaten egg and more sprinkled cheese. I salted and peppered it and cooked till brown. **Q: Are you supposed to let the latch close and lock shut? I thought it said not to allow it and I accidentally did and had to force it open mid-cook.**
A: Do not use the latch during cooking.. as expansion happens during cooking it can break it!

**Q: When you clean it can you pop out the tray?**
A: No. Does not pop out. Cleans si easily with soft cloth, soap and water.

**Q: What latch are some of you speaking of? I literally just got this yesterday and it has no latch**
A: Mine has a latch that keeps it closed, even when stored vertically.

**Q: Can you add butter and syrup directly into the waffle maker?  I always keep mine in the refrigerator so they don't melt well.**
A: I wouldn't melt it in there. I usually melt my butter in microwave, then pour it over the chaffles.
You have to grease it anyway, you can try it. But my thoughts is it may be more difficult to clean.

I Just received my chaffee/waffle maker yesterday and couldn’t wait to try making low carb “chaffle buns” for our sandwiches. ~. The initial cleaning is of course not enjoyable, but got through that. In heating it up I noticed that the red/green button was hard to tell if it was ready or not. I just guessed and gave it about 10 min. I tried to oil with a brush, but realized later that doing that just made a mess. Next time, if I lay down cheese first, I’ll know I can rely on the oil in the cheese to keep it from sticking or just use a lot less oil. ~ The chaffles came out easily after peeking a couple times. They appeared to cook evenly, (this depends upon how much filling you use too. ~ Clean up again wasn’t fun, and I tried different tools/methods to clean each waffle well. Finally used a a small round palm brush dipped in dish water and shook out the water. I scrubbed in a circle in each well and wiped up the soap with damp papertowel and used a damp clean dishcloth to clean each crevice (rinsed the cloth often). I don’t think I’ll need to clean this deeply each time I use as the cooked bits come out pretty cleanly. (I’m thinking how cast iron pans work). As far as the Chaffle? Wow, it was one of the best sandwiches we’ve both had. Hubby said he’d expect to have something like this in a restaurant.
