Seller's description has each basket as 6.25 but they are only 4 inches each basket and then 2.63 of space between the 2 baskets making a total of 10.63 inches height. The metal bar does not go all the way across the bottom, it slides into holes on each side. They work great for organizing the cupboards under my bathroom and kitchen sinks. I recently purchased another one to organize a space on my kitchen counter. The design has slightly changed. Before the bases were each a solid plastic piece. Now they come in two pieces that you need to slide and snap together, which was difficult for me to do and I needed my husband’s help. This made me a little nervous about its durability. After that it was easy to assemble. The fact that the bases came in two pieces and were difficult for me, opposed to the old design, which was much easier to assemble, is why I docked it down a star. I understand why the design changed (cleaner, more organized look, packaging, etc.) but prefer the old design.
