I make quite a strong mix in a spray with water and I spray it directly on the offending yellow highlights before drying my hair (sometimes afterwards). Hey presto - yellow becomes silver! It also works on previous dark chestnut brown lowlights that had faded to a copper colour. Basically it turns warm (orange, red) tones cool. Careful, it stains everything and you'll even need bleach to get it out of your enamel sink. Just take your time and be careful.
