Pretty in Pink

"Pretty in Pink" (1986) was directed by Howard Deutch from a screenplay by John Hughes who also was an executive producer. It was a modest theatrical hit grossing 40.4 million against a budget of 9 million. The cast is tremendous featuring Molly Ringwald, James Spader, Jon Cryer, Annie Potts, Andrew McCarthy and Harry Dean Stantob. While not quite as critically acclaimed as "Sixteen Candles" and "The Breakfast Club", it is still a terrific little film detailing high school life in the mid 80's from the inimitable screenwriting perspective of the late & great John Hughes. This is a must watch for fans of the lovely Molly Ringwald in particular. "Pretty in Pink" got a DVD release all the way back in 2006. It seemed like the film would never make the jump to blu-ray but Paramount finally did just that in 2020 as part of their new Paramount Presents line of special edition blu-rays. The film got a new 4K remaster and is presented in a 1.78:1 aspect ratio (slightly opened up from its 1.85:1 theatrical exhibition) utilizing the AVC codec at a beefy bit rate staying usually in the mid 30's. Simply put, "Pretty in Pink" looks amazing! Detail, color saturation, and contrast/black levels are all near perfect. Unless the film ever got a 4K UHD physical release, this is the best the film will ever look. This new transfer was supervised and approved by the director. The feature itself gets a robust 5.1 DTS-HD mix. There is also the option of an isolated score track which is cool since the film is highly celebrated for its soundtrack. There are also options for German, French, and Japanese audio tracks in regular 2 channel stereo. English subtitles are included for the hearing impaired. The disc comes in a cool slipcover that opens up on the front to feature the original theatrical poster art. Extras while sadly on the light side are as follows: - Filmmaker Focus: Director Howart Deutch on Pretty in Pink (7 min. 38 sec.) - The Lost Dance: The Original Ending (12 min. 15 sec.) - Original theatrical trailer (1 min. 27 sec.) While I am disappointed that there is no director and/or cast commentary track or new cast interviews, this long overdue blu-ray release of "Pretty in Pink" is still a must buy for fans. The film looks and sounds amazing and when it comes down to it, the presentation of the film is of utmost importance. In that regard, Paramount knocked it out of the park with this one.

I have always loved this movie. Funny and sad at times. I could relate. This is definitely a classic and in 4K it was restored to a clearer, more colorful presentation. This is a must own for fans. 👍

This is a great movie àlthough I have mixed feelings about how it ends. I heard that the ending was rewritten because a test audience booed the original ending. I'm glad I was not there to say were we at the same movie because the first few times I saw the movie I thought the guy she ends up with was a jerk and I figured she was better off with her friend who was in love with her throughout the movie. That's who I thought she would end up with especially after she cussed out the one she ends up with. I didn't catch it until the third or fourth watch that he redeemed himself in the end and even her friend had to admit that. Anyway this is a great movie as I said. You should get it.

Good movie

❤️🤩 Absolutely LOVE Pretty N Pink !! Quality service and DVD played perfectly in my DVD player!! I loved all the movies that Molly Ringwald did back in the 80s, but this is definitely my favorite..🌷💗👩🏻‍🦰

This is a classic, love this movie. Good price

Since the opinion of how good a movie is differs from person to person, I decided to come up with a more "generic" rating system for movies purchased on Amazon. That is, instead of rating how "good" a movie is, my rating is going to be based on how the product is advertised. All movies that I rate are going to start with "3" stars and will be adjusted as follows: +1 star if the product is EXACTLY how it is advertised (meaning, the picture[s] are accurate at the time of my purchase) +1 star if the product gives you an extra that is not advertised (i.e., if a Blu-Ray disc is included on a 4KUHD listing but not shown in the picture[s]) -1 star if the product doesn't "quite" match the description (i.e., if an unrated 4KUHD movie only has the unrated version in an included Blu-Ray disc but gives no indication as such on the product picture[s]) -2 stars if the product short changes the purchase (ie, the product advertises something but you don't get it) With that in mind, I am giving this movie 4 stars because: + What was advertised is exactly what you get. The item comes with a 4KUHD disc, a Blu-Ray disc, and a digital code. Digital code was successfully redeemed

It’s a classic.

No slipcover as shown in the listing. Returned, twice.
