How can you tell which model bladder will work with the ex model filter?

They are all MSR filter compatible (with threads), regardless of size. If your filter can't attach to Nalgene threads, then these wont work.

Can the msr guardian filter be hooked to this or is the opening not large enough?

Hi Reyvens Roost Farms, yes the base (outlet side) of the filter can be screwed directly onto the DromLite reservoir (where the large cap screws onto the reservoir). - The MSR Customer Service Team

how do you dry the bag after use?

Shake as much water out, leave cap open, hang to dry. MSR Customer Service Team
