Educational - Players become familiar with the important historical figures, political agendas and crucial events that unfolded in America between 1800 and 1865. Teaching the Underground Railroad Through Play presents an instructional unit spanning five lessons that can be used to teach students of slavery and abolitionism in America using Freedom - The Underground Railroad. In each section, historical information is included to provide background on the topics for the lesson. The first two sections establish a base understanding of slavery and introduce the abolitionist movement in America, using elements from the game as resources, as well as additional primary source documents. The third lesson covers the perils of traversing the Underground Railroad.
