It's about as bright as any of the other AA/AAA penlights that I've seen. It's quite useful for small repairs and task lighting, and it fits unobtrusively in a pocket or tool bag. It isn't a flashlight but it can do a lot of flashlight stuff in a pinch-- I've used it to walk around in a dark backyard, for example.
