GREAT TWOFFER !!!!!!!!
Loved Destroyer to bits; it's THE best Gorgoroth album to me, very chaotic, experimental and varied, yet cohesive and coherent. The U-boat sound samples in the songs incredibly add to the war-like sound and atmos. Guitars are razor-sharp and percussion is so powerful it will peel the paint off your ceiling; merciless double drum attack. Great vocals from 4 different singers ! Five stars for Destroyer. Now Incipit Satan it's a very different animal; slower, brooding, weirder, and yet more varied. Less cahotic and morestructured, even including a plain hard-rock(ish) song with clean vocals. Interesting use of techno samples a la Mayhem's ¨Grand Declaration Of War¨ (who copied who, both are from '00 ?!) Guitar tone is thicker for this one and drums (esp doible kick-drums) are much more sparsely used. Gorgoroth, unlike most black metal band, have always favoured bass guitar, making it very audible in the mix, but here it overpowers the drums, which is very unusual. 3 stars for this record.I bought it for Destroyer alone but got Incipit as a bonus so I gave it a try; not too shabby but still 3 OK stars. Maybe it'll grow on me, who knows.Nuclear Blast has remastered these 2 titles to perfection. Sound is so good I just let it blast flat through my towers, giving my subwoofer a rest. Gotta love these twoffers.74' long.
