I got a 50 gallon white translucent plastic container(make sure NO CHEMICALS!! were ever in it,can't emphasize this enough)...Clean it thoroughly and arrange it by setting it near a downspout... put a cloth sock, etc. over the spout and allow rain to flow into the container...(use any size you can acquire)..I use another clean towel to further strain the downspout water...Do this until the water is dirt, grit,and twig free...Cheesecloth is good for a final filter...And a gutter-guard like setup does the 1st filter for you...Hope this helps...(The more impurities you get out extends the life of the BBGWFS)...Try not to have brown water...That taxes the filter...Also stock up on tiny pills of water purification tablets...Follow directions.... **Q: How long before the water starts flowing ?** A: The first couple of times filling it, it took probably 20 minutes to get the basin full enough to have water flow.
