Review: Truth be told ... - Truth be told - I was cynical However, I'm pleasantly surprised. The strips work very well, and I can be 100% sure about this because I have my water softener connected to the hot water only. This is how I wanted it to be setup. I do not want my drinking water softened any more than it is, I actually have a separate filter for that anyway So, I did two tests, and as you can see from the photo. Green is the hot water tap result, and light brown is the cold water tap result. In a nutshell my hot water is soft, and my drinking water is mildly soft. Perfect! All-in-all a conclusive result and there are plenty of strips to last a very long time Would I recommend this product? 100% YES!

**Q: why do i need 150 of them?**
A: Well, it's a matter of personal choice. I test frequentl, so I am happy there are 150 of them. The box that I just got doesn't expire until August of 2023, so I know I will have no problem using them by that time. I like to make sure my water softener is working.

**Q: Can it test bottled carbonated water?**
A: I am sure it can. I would test the freshly opened bottle first, then let it stand overnight to lose the carbonation then test again to see if there was a difference. The stale water test should be considered definitive. I am a chemist.

**Q: It says for testing magnesium, I don't see a magnesium scale? Does it actually test magnesium?**
A: It tests for it, it tests for all the minerals and metals it lists. It does not have individual scales for each one.

**Q: Does this work for salt chlorinated pools?**
A: Yes, it will indicate the total hardness (amount of CaCO3)

Truth be told - I was cynical However, I'm pleasantly surprised. The strips work very well, and I can be 100% sure about this because I have my water softener connected to the hot water only. This is how I wanted it to be setup. I do not want my drinking water softened any more than it is, I actually have a separate filter for that anyway So, I did two tests, and as you can see from the photo. Green is the hot water tap result, and light brown is the cold water tap result. In a nutshell my hot water is soft, and my drinking water is mildly soft. Perfect! All-in-all a conclusive result and there are plenty of strips to last a very long time Would I recommend this product? 100% YES!

Very imprecise. Colors change and fade, and even if you manage to do it right, you end up with a wide scale between two colors and you have to estimate with a LOT of error margin. Buy an electronic tool instead, don’t waste your money on this.
