It's a handy little whistle for getting people's attention in a crowded environment because of its distinctive "bobby whistle" sound, but the range isn't that great, so I wanted something I could take hiking. I figured I'd try another Acme product, the Thunderer. It arrived in the mail and as I walked back from the mailbox, I opened the package, and gave the whistle a quick blow. I'm so glad I live out in the country because it startled me with how loud it was. The sound could have been heard for at least a mile away. I've had some cheap stamped metal coach's whistles in the past and this is just so much nicer. It's HEAVY, nice thick metal that just screams (literally) quality.
