Can you trim this ?? It's about 2 " too long.

I did and it worked just fine for me.

Can it work as a coaster for drinks on your desk or will it get ruined?

I’m not sure, because I haven’t put a wet bottomed drink on it, but it is very nice quality and I like it very much. Provides a very nice surface to write on. I would recommend it.
