It doesn't hold the thumb immobile, for which I'm glad. It restricts movement of the base of the thumb a lot, but not so much I can't do most of my activities. I can comfortably wear it all day long. This is exactly what I was looking for. My one complaint is that it's rather hard to wrap and secure the wrist strap and velcro. But it's doable.
